has anyone else got the redwall cook book? if you do what is your favourite recipe? i tried to do the shrew shortbread but it ended up failing terribly :(
I own it. My favourite is the Abbey Trifle and Strawberry Fizz. I also like October Ale. But I really love the storylines!!!
yes i agree, the story lines make it so much better! and the drawings! and the poems! ;D
Oh man, now you made me want it. :( I'm going to save up for the Redwall Graphic Novel, and then maybe the cookbook. :)
yup its worth getting, especially since its got stuff in it like the story lines
A friend of mine has it, and I looked through it. Isn't October Ale just grape juice and sprite? I remember being a little dissapointed, since it's described as being "nut brown" and "nutty" tasting.
im not sure about that, since im busy sometimes i dont always get time to make them but i think that its supposed to taste and look like that
I own it and it is a wonderful cookbook to have. But be warned. There are probably 4 recipes you will see mentioned in the books. All of the rest are just different names that never come up in the series. It is all very tasty, but you won't recognize many recipes.
I love the story that runs through the cookbook! Especially when the Redwallers are trading recipes! I personall loved the 'Rubbadeedub Pudd!' All it was was the dibbun's way of saying Rhubarb Pudden. :)
Maybe I'll have to buy this some day...sounds like I'm missing out on some good stuff. :)
I love that! But shrimp and hotroot soup failed miserably, or maybe it was me... I don't own it, but ust keep getting it out of the library. And yeah, the sorylines are the best.
I LOVE IT!! The scones are delicious :) Strawberry Fizz is just as fantastic as in the book. The story lines are incredible.. love them! It's like reading sommat of The Great Redwall Feast over again. I do wish, however, that they had a few more recipes.. there were some things I wanted to learn to bake, but they didn't have it in them. It does have a bunch of recipes though :) All delicious!
i agree, i wish they had more recipes too ;D
The shrew bread is the best!!!
ill have to try them all soon and have my very own redwall feast! ;D
STRAWBERRY CORDIAL!!!!
ok so you can share tips now and if you want a recipe i would be happy to help, i have a question though, does anyone one know what candied chestnuts are? it dosn't show them in the book, someone told me there american or something and being british, i dont really know, i was told candied ment sweet and from the books i got this impression, are they chestnuts wih sugar on?
Its just chesnuts preserved in honey, like crystalized pineapple, but waaaaaaaay cooler and Redwallier.
awww thats sounds so good! and tasty awwww........
youve made meh hungry now oh back tae subject
favorite recipe was shrimp and hotroot soup or zoop as moles call it XD
hmm i did that but.....i forgot to put the shrimps in :(
MMM depper n ever pie ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
i kep wanting to try that, ill have to make it soon :D
I actually made my own recipe for Shrimp and Hotroot soup before I found out that there was already a recipe for it in the Redwall Cookbook. I still think my version is better though, since it's a heck of a lot spicier.
OOOOOh I love it I specially like tober ale
...even though there are many people who used that recipe before they knew that it was in a redwall cookbook. ;)
anyway, the lomehedge nutbread was really good
Candied chestnuts are scrumptious
I remember when I got it for Christmas! I used about three or four recipes for my birthday last year! They are oh! so good....
I remember finding a website that had, most, if not all, of the recipes, plus many different variations.
www.redwall.net/kitchen
That SHOULD be the link. If not then search, Redwall Kitchen. I am so ready to get cookin'! ;D ;D ;D

I wanted to order a cookbook but my mom wouldn't let me, even if I payed for it. She said it was a waste of money and I was like :o :o :o :o >:( >:(!
Could someone PLEASE send me the custard sauce recipe if they have the book?? I need it by tonight for a bridal shower my mom is hosting. If any of you guys could post it or pm me that would be great! Thank you!
I'll PM it to you.
Edit: done.
THANK YOU!!! Sooo much!
Brian's descriptions of Abbey fare have made many a mouth water, so it should come as no suprise that fans were delighted when he published a Redwall cookbook. Have you ever tried making Redwal food? If so, what were the results?
it was good, and i feel as if there's already a thread about this. the loamhedge nutbread thing was great.

Sure did! ;)
I want to, hotroot soup sounds good
We already have a topic for the Redwall Cookbook (http://redwallabbey.com/forum/index.php?topic=1812.0), I think this discussion fits nicely in there.

Yes, my older brother made deeper'n'ever pie one night for dinner. I'm not a huge vegetable person really, but it was AMAZING. (I can't wait until I save up enough to buy my own Redwall cookbook. My friends and neighbors will find themselves being presented with various mouthwatering dishes constantly. That is, if my family doesn't get to my cooking first.)
We made October Ale. There's also a recipe for seaweed grog that I found on another website that we made.
What's that taste like?
The October Ale Tasted like fizzy Grape juice and The Seaweed grog was good but it called for alot of salt and some of my siblings didn't want the salt.
Seaweed grog is one of the few edibles in the series that doesn't seem appetizing to me. Strawberry fizz with hot scones, on the other hand... *mouth starts watering* When I move out, I'm going to buy a Redwall cookbook and live off of those recipes. I mean, most of them are healthy, right? ;)
Uh.....No
Most of them are vegetarian, which can be a healthy lifestyle... personally, I'd add chicken to just about everything! Living off a Redwall-based recipe diet sounds like a fascinating idea, I might have to try that for a while, haha.
I commented that most Redwall food is healthy because I think that the Redwall 'diet' (sweets aside) seems to be fairly well balanced.
That is true.

Except that they don't have meat, which is why I'm criticizing that part of the books in the RP
Mod note: some early posts in this topic may appear a little out of order. This is because multiple discussions on the same topic were merged into one thread.
I love that book! I make deeper than ever pie and shrimp and hotroot soup fairly often. My family always loves it!
Neat! Is it hard to make?
Could you make a topic of the recipe to it?
Its in the book. If you already have the cookbook then you can use it, if not, then I can post it later (Its late for me). Its a little hard the first time, but it gets easier.
I sadly don't have have the book.

YAY! I'm not the only one who wants it but doesn't have it!!
