Title: Overlord's Orders III
Post by: DanielofRedwall on October 20, 2011, 09:07:38 AM
Well, would you look at that, Overlord's Orders has reached it's third round!

This one is a sequel to the second one, based about half a year or so after the events of the previous round. As it is a sequel, I'm not sure how previous members can make themselves servants. Should we say they were brought back to life somehow, and those who didn't sign up again weren't? Also, James Gryphon was the previous Overlord, so what would he do if he wanted to be a servant? Should he be in disguise or something?

Because of a suggestion from Taggerung_of_Redwall, I'll post the rules here:
QuoteThe Rules
We will have an overlord, who will be all powerful and control the game.
Everyone else will be a servant of theirs to do his or her bidding, which will be a new assignment at the beginning of each round.
The game begins by the Overlord summoning everyone before them and questioning them about whether they got the thing they wanted.

Let’s say the Overlord might have wanted a jeep to use.

Example Round:
Stage 1: Who failed?
The Overlord would question one person of everyone in the game (this would be random selection) and ask them why they failed to bring them the thing they wanted (which will invariable happen, no one ever succeeds).
Stage 2: Defenses
That person can then blame their failure on some random thing (like maybe an elephant destroying the jeep) or someone else in the game; anything to shrug themselves off from the immediate blame placed on them.
Pretty much everything goes at this point, following a rough outline of what happened based on the First Accused, who as stated before will be decided by the Overlord at the beginning of the round.
Everyone can blame someone, themselves, keep silent, or introduce some sort of new feature that happened while acquiring the item (in this case, a jeep). Eventually, the Overlord will process the information and decide who failed, or might just get tired of the arguing and randomly select someone at random.
Stage 3: Fault is fixed
The person chosen to have failed by the Overlord is then thrown out, vaporized, or something creative, by the Overlord’s orders. The idea is to not be this person, and to survive as long as possible.

Likely, the Overlord will be choosing the best defenses as survivors.

One last thing, whenever someone says something, it becomes fact. It is what happened. If someone says an elephant destroyed a jeep, then anyone calling that person a liar is for certain lying; the jeep was destroyed by an elephant. What's up for telling for someone else is, for example, who set the elephant on the jeep. Things are bound to work a lot better that way.

Godmoding is pretty much disallowed if not entirely, powerplaying is allowed, just use it sensibly and don't go having somone else getting their leg bit off or something, but it mostly goes.

Remember to keep things civil, stay inside the board rules, keep all hands and legs inside the game until it comes to a complete stop…
One final rule, keep spam, unless it’s game spam, to an absolute minimum.

If you are new to the game, I highly suggest that you read through at least one of the previous rounds, just so you are familiar with how it all works.

One final thing, if you have ANY suggestions or concerns with how I am "ruling", feel free to PM me, I'll take it all on board and change posts if necessary.

So, whose in? If you want in, copy/paste the list above you and add your name to it. I'll update this list as regularly as possible. I'll be ending registration on Monday the 24th of October, but hopefully we would have gotten 8 people by then!

As James said at the end of the last round, the punishments he issued were reversible (if I read it right). So maybe you could find a reason to bring us back?

As far as explaining the origin of the servants, I figured it would just be glossed over or even outright ignored, as though they hadn't all met ignominious fates in the last round. Since Musician survived the last round, and left in peace, I suppose you could make reference to her character being the same one, just like how you're playing your character from last round, but I wouldn't be too concerned with anyone else.

That said, it is worth mentioning that none of you actually died. In order, what happened to the servants:

1) Muse - Cryogenically frozen
2) HeadInTheGalaxy - Drowned, but defied death
3) Captain Tammo - Disappeared
4) Matthias - Brainwashed by beavers
5) Taggerung - Turned over to the police
6) Redwall Musician - Dismissed
7) DanielofRedwall - Became lieutenant/substitute Overlord

So you could bring everyone's characters from last round back, more or less intact, if you wanted to. :)

If I play -- I haven't decided yet -- I figure it'd make more sense to play as a distinct character from my Overlord, though, since the Overlord said he'd be gone on a very long journey last round -- besides, I wouldn't want you to feel obligated to keep me around extra-long. ;)

I always assumed nay future games would be totally independent from each other, separated by walls of a distinct universe, if you will.
Of course there's nothing wrong if references, and in this case, we even have a recurring character. At least one.
Well, I think I'll play. So I will probably claim a spot pretty soon

_______________________

The base was hidden deep in the Amazon Jungle. The only way to reach it was to either wander aimlessly through the dense jungle for days, or by helicopter. It had been said that the base was once hidden deep in the Pacific Ocean and owned by another man, but the man had left and deep sea explorers had discovered the base. The new owner had everything inside the base moved to a cave in its new home, piece by piece. Although nobody from the general public knew of its new destination, 24 hr patrols were carried out by armed guards, and only those with an ID card could enter.

The Overlord sat in a large leather swivel chair, a cat on his lap, which he gently stroked. He was a man of great mystery. None serving him knew his true identity, none knew how he gained his wealth and none knew where he really lived. Some said that he lived in the base, others said somewhere else in the rainforest, and still some said he lived among normal civilians.

The back of the chair was turned to face his new six servants. They were trapped in plexiglass chambers so they could not escape. Even if one of them managed to catch a peek of his face, he was wearing a balaclava, so none could see who he was. He then addressed them.

"You may be wandering why I called you all so early in the morning. The answer is simple. Your performance in your first mission for me was completely unacceptable. All I asked was that you delivered my hand written complaint message to Apple Inc. In California. I even organized the flights and a bus to take you from the airport to their headquarters. Next thing I hear is that the Apple Inc. headquarters have been attacked by 6 ‘shifty looking characters’ who drove a bus in to the building, killing 20 and injuring even more. Furthermore, I received no reply from Apple Inc. from my letter."

He then thought a while. "As this was your first mission, you don't probably don't know of my punishment techniques. Well, they will be revealed to you soon, as punishment is necessary. However, I don't know who to punish, so I will hear your story out and decide afterwards. Matthias720, please explain what happened on the mission."

Well sir, the plan started out simply. Our trip to California went smoothly, but things became difficult when we landed at LAX.  When we disembarked off the plane, Plugg started to whine about getting some good "old fashioned California dill pickles" from a farm somewhere nearby. Normally we would have ignored such nonsense, but he was so insistent, that we knew we wouldn't get a moments rest until he had some. So we charted a small bus and proceeded to visit several local farms with no avail. At that point, there were still a couple of farms left to visit, and I was growing sleepy. I asked Musician to wake me when we reached Apple HQ, put in ear plugs, and fell asleep.

"Musician ran off though." Tagg said, shaking his head.
"She jumped out of the bus, took the driver prisoner and ran off for hours. We searched around for her, leaving Matthias to his sleep. The bus was broken though, and we were in the middle of nowhere. When we found her, she was sitting in the middle of a fairy ring. The mushrooms were equipped with lasers and pistols though, and we had to think of a good way to rescue her. At that point, seventeen strange looking men appeared with guns that shot red pulses knocking anyone out if they were hit."

"I see your lack of detail is worse then I thought," Musician commented under her breath. She then spoke up, "Apparently you did not notice the bus driver who was diving. His boss, at the last stop, had told him he was to get off the bus at the next stop. I am thinking he must have gotten fired. But instead he was going to keep driving. I knew the last thing we needed was a delay. So just as Matthias had told me to wake him up, I was about to tell him I had to go take care of something. So instead I turned around and told winifred to let the others know I was gone. That's when I grabbed the bus driver. I reported him to the manager there, and sure enough, that employee had been fired and was to be replaced with another. So I was heading back to the bus, when the fired bus driver grabbed me. I kicked him and got myself free. That's when he started chasing me and I ran. He had seven buddies. They were working for a secret organization and needed that bus. They were very angry at me for ruining their plans. So they held me captive for who knows how long. That's when the others came. I really don't see why they couldn't find me. I was only a mile down the road in the woods. So ToR acted weirdly and, instead of thinking things through, charged into every thing. I decided that I would take the chance and escape. So we all ran out of the woods, and what to you know! Lucky me found a magical transportation device. So we jumped in and escaped the seven secret organization people. We arrived at the Apple place. That's when Matthias gave away our position to the front desk clerk. He was chatting to her about his new job working for you, mi'lord. I have no idea why. Then the security guards were starting to notice every thing about us. The rest was kinda strange. You should ask Matthias."

this is intresting because i live in California
unforntunatly for me I was lisenining to my mp3 player with the headphones on and I thought  redwall mucian was talking to matthias when I relized what was going on I jumped up to help but some weird guy pushed me out of the way and off the bus I started to hike to the apple place and was feeling a bit peckish so I stoped at a  orange stand on the side of the road  when I got to the apple place I found the place almost destroyed and lots of ambulances.

M'lord, I do not deny that I gave away our position. However, that was not my fault. As ToR said, at one point Musician was in a mushroom fairy circle. As you well know, mushroom fairy circles periodically release spores that can hypnotize people. Musician must have carried the spores with her and infecting me with them as well. I didn't realize who I was talking to at the time. From my perspective, I was talking to one of your HR reps, m'lord. ToR rescued me and dumped cold water on my head, thus reviving me from my delusions. Fortunately, I had a mind wipe device on me, and was able to cause the clerk to forget. Unfortunately, the guards noticed, and started advancing on us.

Musician must have come under the influence of the spores, because the next thing I know, she rushed towards the guards, grabbed one in a big hug screaming "Mommy!" We didn't have any water to dump on her head (the last of it was used on me), so we had no choice but to try to extract her. The guards must have thought we were crazy, because the start to attack us. Muse then charged in to fight with them, yelling battle crys all the way. We had no choice but to fight, otherwise we would have had to come back two servants short.

Plugg looks darkly at Matthias. "While I did tell them to stop for some dillpickles, they had told me to wait throughout the entire ride. I was starving to death in there! While Muse was rushing into battle, I was trying to find the boss of the establishment. Meanwhile, Winifred, driven by the sound of the battle cry, came and attacked the guards. After that even more guards came running out to the battle. 4 of them came to attack me. I had no choice but to attack them."

"Muse was valiant, and without him, things would have been worse. I called everyone to their senses while the fighting was going on, and we all started to leave. Except winifred, who kept running in circles screaming. Should have kept the spores on Musician away from that servant of yours.
"Anyway, we stole the nearest bus on Matthias' orders, and began to drive away. It was then that a ship of the (you guessed it) death-defying beavers flew overhead and landed right in front of the place, and sent up a giant explosion."

"ENOUGH!" The Overlord's booming voice rang around the whole base.
He then spoke calmly. "Before I make my final desition, I have a few questions I need answered. First question is directed at Plugg Firetail and Muse: why did you get so hungry when I provided enough food for you all during the trip?
Next is directed to nobody in particular: so, if the beavers were the ones who crashed the bus in to the building, why, then, were the confused by the media for you?
Now, I've known about the beaver problem for a while and I'm working on  a strategy to make them in debt to us, so there will be no more problems with them. Let's just say, I'll make them an offer they can't refuse. Now, answer the questions, and then all shall be revealed."

OOC: yes, that was a Godfather referance. I haven't seen the film, but everyone knows that quote!

"I'm like a hare with a bottomless stomach. Besides, ToR stole my rations." "About the beavers, they had these transforming  devices. Once all the beavers were transformed into our likenesses, they came out of the bus. By this time the news reporters were already here. I don't know how they got here so fast, but I remember Matthias taking videos of himself talking on his ipod. Next I saw him posting something on youtube."
Title: Re: Overlord's Orders III
Post by: DanielofRedwall on October 27, 2011, 09:39:57 AM
OOC: yes, I was aware of that, Winifred.

"I see.
Well, I've made up my mind. First of all, you have all seemed to fail me one way or another. Matthias, you gave away your position, Plugg Firetail, you were the one who started the whole thing by your insistent bugging about those dill pickles, however, if one mistake hadn't been made, this mission could possibly have been a success, even with everything else happening. Muse, you're gone."
The Overlord pressed a few buttons on his control panel, and soon, the cell Muse was standing in started to fog up with a strange gas. And then came his laughing. Muse laughed insanely as his cell got foggier. The laughter kept going, before suddenly, it stopped. Here, the Overlord pressed some more buttons on the panel, and the fog cleared up. The cell opened up and revealed a knocked out Muse.
"Nitrous oxide," the Overlord explained, "better known as laughing gas. Muse is completely unconscious."  He then spoke in to a microphone.
"Gnergnegutgjnotgj," he said, and soon four death-defying beavers appeared. They picked up the unconscious Muse and placed him on a stretcher. They then carried him off.
"He made you all go back to another farm for more food, and yet didn't defend himself during my interrogation. He slowed you all down, despite whatever fighting skills he seemed to possess.  Anyway, he is now a guinea pig for whatever strange experiments the beavers want to do on him. The beavers will no longer disturb us.
"Now, I hope that serves as a warning for you all. I cannot stand failure, and failure must be punished. So, with that in mind, I have another task for you all, and I expect it to be carried out with no mistakes.
I want you to fly to Juneau, Alaska. One of my many safes is hidden underneath a drainage pipe near the main entrances to the international airport. The code to get in is "99923444688887". I can have one of my assistance write that down if you must. As you all know, my favourite author, I.M. Powerful, has released his new book, 'The Complete Guide to Overlording'. Take out $1,000 and purchase five copies. Bring them all to me, intact."

____
The next day, the servants assembled, yet again, in the poliglass chambers of the base. The Overlord was not impressed. "Yet again you have failed me, and yet again you shall be punished. Instead of the $1,000 I told you to withdraw, you withdrew the whole lot. You are lucky I have a safe in every capital city of the world, or you would all die a slow, painful death. Furthermore, instead of any of that actual books, all I received was a photo of the front cover. You better start explaining yourselves. Anybody, I don't care."
OOC: I will be away from Friday to Sunday, as I will be going hiking and camping, so make up some excuses and have fun until I come back!

Plugg pipes up."I am sorry about the whole 1,000$ mixup, but we left Winifred with the code and amount of money. She blew it. During a fight with Musician over who has the best hairdo, the amount of money you needed to take out was ripped from the paper and thrown out the window by Musician. By the time we got to the safe, Winifred forgot the amount of money. She made up for this by taking the entire lot. Ask Winifred sir.

"The money issue was a mistake. I was arranging for our trip to Alaska when this happened. Once in Alaska, winifed took five pictures of the book's cover and handed them to Musician. Not sure what was going on. Then a giant elephant stormed the building, and everyone ran. Apparently it was a stunt by some recent tourists. Once this happened, Musician took a run to call someone to take care of the elephant. She lost four photos, which winifred snatched and ate for some reason."

Musician wanted some candy. She then spoke, "Sir, do you have any chocolate? No, I didn't think so.
"And boys wouldn't understand hair. The pride some girls takes in he hair is so great that none could understand." Here Musician fluffed her hair. "I am terribly sorry for that. Of coarse, with your amazing planing skills you made sure to give ToR an extra copy of the amount of money needed. I have no idea why he didn't give that paper to the one withdrawing the money.
"Oh, and I just took the photos because winifred handed them to me. Ask her what was going on. And exactly as ToR said, I thought the locals should take care of the elephant, since I did not want to attract attention to myself with trying to tame the beast myself. As for what happened to the book, I placed it into the briefcase myself, and Matthias insisted that he carry it. I have no further knowledge of what happened to it."

I took the pics in hopes of getting them sighned by your favorite author mi'lord so that you would not only have a book by him but his signature as well, I thought you could use it, if you didnt want it by selling it on the enernet to make up for the extra money I might have accidently took.I relized that somewhere along the journey that the rest of the pics might get stolen or lost so I ate 4 and kept one especialy for you it ended up that when we got to the place where the books were being sold it was destroyed by the elephant and the pic never got sighned. I faintly remember hearing matthias talking on his phone to some circus and something about  elephant arrangements you should ask him mi'lord.

"As I remember Musician was poking the elephant. She was moving the elephant towards the stands because she didn't like the way the author looked. I tried to stop her but she was determined to run the elephant into the stand. I'm not sure if she knew what the stand meant to you. Meanwhile Matthias was goading Winifred on to eat something bigger. I'm not sure what he was thinking but he pulled the book out of his coat. A passing citizen walked past Matthias taking the book with him. I heard him as he walked past."Hey, free book!"

"M'lord, I wish to point out that all the accusations against me are unfounded. The phone call that I was making about the elephant was too one of your "cleanup" crews. I wanted to make sure that they would find a good place for an elephant such as the one we had on our hands. We wouldn't want a random elephant running around, would we? And to the best of my knowledge, the elephant is now residing safely at a circus touring the Hawaiian islands."

"Now to the supposed fiasco with the briefcase and book. Soon after we bought the books, I noticed that we were being followed by a pair of death-defying beavers. They were stealthy, but I noticed the slight shimmer of their cloaking devices, despite the others not noticing. I quickly took possession of the briefcase, which contained the last copy of the book. I swapped the dust jacket from your book with one from my backpack, and "accidentally" "gave" the book to a passerby. The beavers predictably followed the unsuspecting person, and I don't know what happened to them after that. Feeling secure again, I put the disguised book in my backpack, and went back to join the others. We left not long afterwards, and headed to the airport to catch a flight back. I stopped to quickly use the bathroom, entrusting my backpack with Plugg, warning him to keep it safe. When I returned, I didn't suspect anything was different. However, when we returned to the base, the book was missing. That's all I know m'lord."

"What happened with the bookbag was a fiasco. As I waited for Matthias to get out of the restroom, I noticed a local passerby trying to spit spitballs at me. It was a very bad shot. Leaving the backpack with Winifred, I marched up to the local. As I marched I noticed that the local was covered with snow jackets, big boots, and a ski mask on. This made him virtually unidentifiable. When I was done apprehending the thief, I came and got the backpack back from Winifred. What I saw in there was not the book you wanted, but a book called "Ipod for dummies". The dust cover was the one from your book."

after plugg handed me the backpack I sat down next to Redwall mucian we were talking about this and that as I was going through the book making sure it was in good condition when I noticed plugg was walking back towards us after dealing with the wierd ski jacket guy but I also noticed the guy sneaking back quickly towards plugg for a second direct attack of spitballs so I handed the book to Redwall mucian and went to warn plugg you should ask mucian what happened mi'lord.

"I found it annoying that people kept passing the bag off. I knew the book was in it. So I sat with it. Then I noticed ToR talking to some person. She was eyeballing my sandwich, so I decided to go up to her.
"'Hello mam, that my sandwich.'
"'Whatever!' the lady replied.
"I took a bite of the sandwich. ToR said, 'Here, let me take the bag.' I didn't give it to him. When I sat back down, I looked into the bag. The book was gone! I saw the lady walking away with it.
"'ToR!' I yelled, 'Get her!' He and I took after her. Unfortunately I tripped on my skirt, and when I got back up, I saw ToR running after her. I had hit my head pretty hard, and I passed out."

The Overlord held up a hand for silence, and then spoke.
“There were mistakes made, and some great ideas throughout this mission. Matthias, that was clever of you to swap the book jacket. Winifred, your idea of getting the book signed is much appreciated. But, unfortunately, there were also mistakes, and mistakes must be punished.”
He pressed a few buttons on his control pad, and soon two of his servants appeared. He pressed another button, and the chamber Redwall Musician was standing in opened. The servants rushed over to her and swiftly knocked her out. They then carried her out of the room.
“Even if she was a girl, I would have thought that she would have valued the safe completion of this mission over her hair. If she hadn’t ripped up the paper the amount of money was on, the mission would have been a lot easier. Unfortunately, that is just the way it goes. She will be hypnotised by those servants. When she wakes, she will be lying in the middle of a busy street without any memories of what happened during her time serving.
Believe it or not, but for my next order I’ll be giving you a bit of a treat. I want you to find the nearest McDonalds. Order yourselves one cheeseburger meal each. There is one thing I want of you, however. You see, McDonalds are currently running an offer. For every four cheeseburger meals ordered in one purchase, you will receive a complimentary board game. Some of the beavers and I have been arguing quite a bit recently over who was better at Monopoly, so this would settle it. Please bring me back one Monopoly game, still in perfect condition. I could easily go and buy a board game myself, but I think you might need a treat to perk you up and really get you excited to serve me. This might mean you won’t fail me ever again.”

_____
The next day, the servants assembled again. The Overlord, shaking his head, talked to them. “I don’t see how you manage it,” he said. “No matter how simple the mission, you always seem to fail me. I asked you to bring me the game intact, and yet you somehow managed to bring it to me with numerous pieces and cards missing and Coke stains all over the board. Plus, it didn’t come inside the box, in fact, I didn’t receive any box at all! I thought the McDonalds would improve your performances, but I obviously thought wrong. Someone start talking now, before I lose my patience.”

______
OOC: I feel really bad eliminating you, Musician, especially because you hadn't been really eliminated before. But, rules are rules, and, unfortunately, I judged you the one to be eliminated. No hard feelings?

ToR spoke. "It is simple. Overlord. We arrived at McDonalds, short of winifred, who had wandered off on some business. We all ordered our meals, and received the game. I said we must keep it intact and in the box. But Matthias took it out and looked at it. A explosion occured, and winifred armed with rocket launchers flew into the building and incinerated the box and Matthias' burger.
"That happened next was simple. Winifred was arrested, and I sent Matthias, still upset over his loss, so I gave him mine, to get her out. In the meanwhile, someone, who was not me, spilled coke over the game and stole some elements. Ask winifred the reason for her rampage, and question everyone else over the game's additional damages."

"M'lord, spilling the coke was an accident, and in no way was it my fault. After the fiasco last mission with Plugg losing the book after I covertly gave it to him, I knew there was a good chance he'd lose the goods this time around, too. However, Plugg didn't see things this way. He insisted that he'd be the better choice to watch over the game board and pieces. I informed him that due to his previous failure that he (sic) 'was probably not the most responsible choice for carrying out this task.' Well he didn't like my pointing out his previous failure, as he started to work himself up into a frenzy. Then, at an unexpected moment he rushed towards the table with the game board and pieces. As I rushed to intercept him, I saw the coke sitting on the table. I tried my best to avoid it in my haste, but Plugg shoved me into the table, causing me to knock over the coke onto the game board and pieces and also giving me a large bump on my head. Plugg immediately stood up, loudly exclaiming 'Matthias, how could you?' in an innocent voice. He then proceeded to snatch up as many pieces as he could, under the pretense of 'keeping them safe from a maniac.'

Well, I wasn't going to press the issue, so I let him do it, knowing that he might very well hang himself for doing that. No sooner had he finished gathering the pieces up, when all of a sudden, the ski jacket guy rushed in and stole about half the pieces. I couldn't do anything because I was nursing that bump on my head. Ski jacket guy then laughed at us, put the game pieces in his pocket, and then skipped past Winifred who stood there watching him in disbelief. I called to her, telling her to chase after him, but she just stood there watch him exit the building. ToR was the only one who acted quickly, chasing the scoundrel as far as he could before returning after he lost track of the thief. That is the bulk of what happened, m'lord."

"M'lord, Matthias was instigating the whole fight. After reminding me of my "failure" with the book, he started running around me shouting you lost the book, you lost the book!" After a few minutes of him running round me I realized there was a soda can right next to the game. As I rushed to move the can to a different position, Matthias, having the wrong idea about me running, came in front of me. I could not stop myself, I was running too fast. Matthias was pushed over into the table, knocking soda onto the pieces. As Matthias was rubbing his wound, I took the rest of the pieces to protect them from Anything else."

"M'lord, while it's true I was shouting at Plugg, it was only because he kept shoving his fingers in his ears, trying to ignore my logical points about why he should not be the one to carry the board and pieces. The fool wouldn't listen to reason. He put a finger in each ear and started to rudely taunt me by saying 'I can't hear you!' in a very childish voice. With all the authority I could muster, I attempted to tell him to not be such a child, that it was him who lost the book, not me. But every time I spoke, he would impishly repeat 'I can't hear you!' to where I had no choice but to shout at him to get him to hear me. That is when the unfortunate incident with the game board and pieces happened. I feel horrible that this took place, and if it is a crime to try to be as responsible as possible in a situation such as this, m'lord, then I yield myself to your judgement."

The Overlord, after considering all that was said, spoke.
"Well, whatever happened, I have made my decision. It seems, yet again, you all failed me in some wa or another, but, one mistake I just can't ignore."
He pressed a few buttons on his control panel, and then waited. Finally, someone appeared. It was not one of his workers. They spoke to each other in muttered phrases, before the Overlord addressed his servants.
"This is Dr. Alan Grant. He, like me, is a strong believer that animal testing should be banned. So, instead of testing on animals, he tests on humans, doing the most painful experiments possible. So, ready to find out who the lucky person is who'll be joining him in his lab?"
After a few more buttons were pressed on the control panel, winifred's chamber opened up. She was tackled to the ground, kicking and struggling, before Dr. Grant placed a needle in her arm. She soon stopped struggling, and was carried out on a stretcher.
"Her decision to abandon you all baffles me. I did not want a 'wide variety of pieces', as she put it. I simply wanted the normal Monopoly pieces that you find in any normal Monopoly board. Too many pieces could get confusing. Oh well, nevermind, she'll simply become a human test subject now."
He waited until Winifred was taken out of the room before speaking again.
"Just three servants left?! Incredible! But, this must mean that you are the most trustworthy of the group, which means that you probably won't fail me. So, I have another mission, just for you three.
I consider my cat here, Silvester, to be my best friend. However, over the past few days, he seems to have become bored when I leave him alone. So, my next mission is simple. I want you to go to the nearest pet shop and buy a few cat toys for him to play with. I have two that I think he must have. These are a scratching post and a ball of string. Buy these and pick out 3 other toys for him, and then come back here. Well? What are you waiting for? Shoo!"

_______

The next morning, when the three servants assembled, the Overlord did something he never did. He was out of his chair and walking among the chambers. Of course, he was still wearing a baraclava. Silvester the cat wandered slowly behind him, hissing at the three servants.
"You see? Silvester hates failure almost as much as I do. But he hates it even more when one failed him. I thought I could trust you, but I was wrong. You came back to me with no scratching post, a piece of string in stead of a ball of string and a slobbery tennis ball. Silvester is a cat, not a dog! What can a cat do with a slobbery tennis ball? Also, I received no other toys but the two I mentioned. Start explaining, now!"

1. Matthias720
2. Plugg Firetail

"Overlord, Matthias went to George's Cat and Dog Toys Shop, and Plugg to Michael's String Toys, and I went myself to the mall. I had just picked up three additional toys, a catnip one, a toy mouse, and a toy puffball, when I recieved a call from Plugg. He was yelling and wouldn't stop, so I hung up. Matthias called me next, and said he had been attacked by escaped monkeys from the store. He had bought a tennis ball already when he finally got away. We met outside Michael's String Toys waiting for Plugg, four toys down and one remaining. Plugg came out with his jacket torn. Death-defying beavers followed, and a shot from a laser gun incinerated the toys I had picked out. Plugg began running away, and me and Matthias were forced to deal with the problem.
"After two hours, we had finally gotten away. Matthias showed me the tennis ball, but the beavers and monkeys had already destroyed all three buildings. We had to just return with at least the ball, and Plugg's stand. Or so we thought. We met Plugg later, and he had chosen the best string form his torn jacket as the toy. Why your other servants chose such horrible toys in direct defiance of your orders, I do not understand."
Title: Re: Overlord's Orders III

"M'lord, ToR speaks incorrectly when he says that I "chose such horrible toys in direct defiance of your orders." I went to the pet shop as instructed to purchase the scratching post. However, when I arrived, they were all sold out. I figured that while I was there, I could at least see what else they had for sale, and I bought a container of tennis balls, thinking that they might come in handy at some point. As it turned out, I was right. I was walking out the door, contemplating where I would get a scratching post from now, when all of a sudden, the monkeys being sold in the shop burst from their cages, and started going crazy. I couldn't let the shop get destroyed (I buy special fish food there for my pet fish), so I bravely attempted to put them back in their cages. I was fighting a losing battle though, because for every one I put in a cage, another one would escape. The monkeys realized that I was against them, so they ganged up on me, and they attempted to throw me out of the store. Luckily, I was able to get away by throwing two of the tennis balls at them, breaking their attention long enough to make my getaway.

At that point, I received the distress call from Plugg and headed his way to see if I could help out, and maybe even find a scratching post. I met ToR on the way there, and we discussed what had transpired so far. We arrived to the chaos that Plugg had encountered, with death-defying beavers on a rampage. They destroyed ToR's toys, beat up Plugg, and caused general mayhem. We had no choice but to retreat and regroup. At that point, we were exhausted. Plugg suggested that we go back to you with what we had, m'lord. ToR felt that we had done what we could for the time being, and we should return and ask you for an extension on the mission. I was of the opinion that we order the same items we had/would have had online, saving us time and resources. So we collective returned and we await your judgment, m'lord. We have done what we could with what we had. Although it is my opinion that if we had more time and resources, we could have been successful."

"M'lord the death-defying beavers must've known we were coming. I was walking around the store looking for the ball of string when the beavers jumped out. One of them said "Gifgjidfndosbj kldshnjl." As I speak beaver speak fluently, I translated the talk into "Destroy all balls of string in the country!" Next thing I know they shot all of the balls of string in the store and shot me with their laser guns. I knew the only cure to a beaver laser gun is pure fountain water, I ran to find one. If I didn't I would have been vaporized. Luckily I found one at the very mall Tor was at."

Now for the piece of string. As I knew that the beavers had gone off to destroy all balls of string, I attempted to save the situation by at least bringing some string. Obviously Matthias and Tor didn't like my plan."

However, I did spy someone walking the street with a ball of string. I bought it with a laser gun, but the man was a disguised beaver, and promptly shot the ball. I got away, though Matthias apparently had known the man as a beaver without telling anyone. Not sure how."

"M'lord, I did know that the gentlemen in question was a beaver in disguise. However, I couldn't act on this knowledge because the beaver had me trapped in a force shield of some kind, because I couldn't move. I got free because by the time ToR and Plugg had made the trade, the shield had weakened enough for me to escape, but it was too late. I don't think ToR was aware of my plight, as I happened to be trapped standing in a casual pose.

Later on, while looking through our gear for a GPS device that would hopefully help us find another pet shop, I stumbled upon a book entitled "Force Shields Made Easy." I ran a fingerprint scan on it; the book was covered in Plugg's prints, both inside and out, and it had a sticker on the inside that read "If found, please return to Plugg Firetail" in bold lettering. That is the extent of my knowledge of that event, m'lord"

"M'lord, I bought this book for the beaver attacks. If they popped up again, I would be able to stick them in position, doing us no harm. Meanwhile Tor and me were making the trade. I wanted to give the guy my piece of string, you see. The catch was that I painted it gold with some paint buckets I found on the ground. Tor, on the other hand, wanted to trade a laser gun. Knowing our bad experience with them, I resisted. Tor pushed me out of the way and quickly sealed the deal. Then the beaver shot the ball of string with the laser gun. I don't know how the book got in the gear bag. I kept it in my super large jean pockets."

"I had deactivated the laser gun prior, but Plugg had rewired it. I was shocked when he used the gun. Monkeys gave Matthias three bananas at that point, which he put in his pockets. Two beavers came down from the sky at this point and joined the man who was apparently a beaver, and traded him a tablet with beaver writing on it for the three bananas, which were stuffed with gold ore. I was running to stop the trade, but it was in vain. Matthias made the trade, and the beavers left with the bananas. The monkeys had told Plugg that they would give Matthias these bananas, capable of showing us the way to five toys you wanted. I had told Matthias, but to no avail."

"M'lord, what ToR does not know, is at the point I was trading away the bananas, my ears were ringing from being within the force shield. The only thing I could hear was a high-pitch whine. I was oblivious to whatever ToR had said. After the deal was sealed and we had the tablet, my hearing started to return. I could just make out ToR and Plugg yelling at me, but I couldn't make out what they were saying, but when I turned around, ToR rushed up to me and started shaking me, yelling "What did you do that for?" which I barely made out while trying to read his lips. I attempted to explain about my ears, but he wouldn't listen (ironic isn't it). I then checked my watch and saw that we had only an hour left before we had to return to you. With things spiraling out of control, I felt I had no choice but to follow along with whatever my colleagues had planned. The thought of being seperated from them and potentially getting blamed for everything that went wrong just didn't appeal to me.  I regret now not having gone off in search of another place to purchase cat toys."

Title: Re: Overlord's Orders III

The Overlord picked up his cat, stroked it, and spoke. "I see. Well, whatever happened, it seems that you failed me. Again. And not only me, but Silvester here. For that, you must be punished."
He reached in to his jacket and pulled out a Beaver laser gun. "Surprised to see me with one of these? Well, the beavers and I have finally reached an agreement. If I admitted that they were better then me at Monopoly and Boggle, they would stop terrorising my servants (you) and also give me one of these. It is a prototype, the latest model of Beaver laser gun. And I can use it for whatever I like. Let me demonstrate."
The Overlord did not bother with opening the poliglass chamber, the gun could go through anything until it hit his target. And his target was Taggerung_of_Redwall. He aimed, and fired.
Something went horribly wrong. As it was just a prototype, the beavers hadn't got everything working. The Overlord roared and threw the gun on the ground in frustration. He forced himself to calm down, and then spoke.
"Very well. It seems this gun does not want to behave with me. Consider yourself lucky, Taggerung. You have not been vaporized. You will, however, will be taken to our dungeons. You will live here for the rest of your life, only going out to be walked- with a collar, like a dog. You shall be fed the scraps of whatever meal my cooks prepare for me. Enjoy your last moments of freedom, Taggerung. Before you go, let me explain my reasoning. It is quite simple. Even if you did not know if the man was a beaver, or even if you did tamper with the wires, a laser gun is simply too dangerous a weapon to give out. A ball of string I can find in other ways. Trading a laser gun for it was simply unnecessary."
Another servant of his appeared, and the Overlord opened the chamber. Taggerung was handcuffed and taken, kicking and screaming at the top of his lungs, through a secret entrance none of the servants and seen before.

______

Almost a week had passed since the servants had last seen the Overlord, but they were certainly not ready for what confronted them. The Overlord was facing them, almost examining them. But he wasn't wearing a baraclava. He simply looked like a regular person. He seemed deep in thought. He opened his mouth, and spoke in a weary voice. He seemed tired. "It seems I can trust you two. You have managed to have avoided my punishments and made it all the way here. So, it must mean you can keep a secret. I am about to reveal my story.
I started out just like you, a servant, serving a master with great power. I never learnt his name, I had to call him 'sir' or 'master' or 'Overlord'. I respected him, in a way, but didn't enjoy my job very much. Until, one fateful day, we failed him. It was the first time, but certainly not the last. The servants dropped like flies, each punishment as bad as the one before it. Until, I was left. He said he would be leaving, and he needed me to take his place until he got back. He never returned. So, I built my own kingdom, if you must. I became selfish and greedy. I spent my whole life serving, now it was time to be served.
I now realise what I have become. I am deeply regretful. In fact, I've gone as far as releasing Taggerung in to normal sociaty and sending get well cards to the servants I harmed. And so, I am quitting. However, I need to know that I'll be leaving my kingdom in good hands.
So, I ask you both- if you became Overlord, what would you do? Please answer honestly."

I shudder to think about what I might do if I became overwhelmed with power. However, one must not run from a difficult situation, but confront it, if you wish to succeed. Sir, I would first try to stop the beavers from harassing my minions ever again. They have attacked all of our missions in the past. However, I would reward the minions who succeed in their objective and punish those who don't. I would put up reasonable missions for my servants to handle. The corruption of power is inevitable. It always happens after a while. Even if it happens, I will try to delay for as long as possible. Some day maybe the servant who performs above everyone else will get the job, as we have. That is all I have to say my lord."

Plugg tries to stand respectfully inside his chamber, but hit his head at the top.

Ooc:Glad its finally over. Congrats to whoever is the new Overlord! So one of us is getting kicked out?

The Overlord considered both of the servant's promises, and then said, "I knew I could always rely on you two. I would have no regrets leaving my wealth and kingdom in either of your hands. But, there can only be one Overlord, and that shall be-"
He was interrupted by a loud banging noise outside. From the shadows of the entrance, a figure was getting closer and closer. The darkness hid its true identity. The Overlord was getting anxious, who was this mysterious figure? How did they know of this place? And then, out of the shadows stepped- Redwall Musician.
The servants gasped. Wasn't she hypnotised? She wasn't supposed to remember this place! She addressed the Overlord directly. "So, it was you all along, DanielofRedwall. I should have known. Well, in fact, I did. I was standing at the doorway when the previous Overlord gave you his position. I heard every word that passed between you. I was jealous. I wanted power, but you snatched the opportunity from me. So, guess who I turned to? The CIA, of course. That's right- I've been a spy all this time. This wasn't the first of my missions- I had to do some simple ones first to prove my worth. I excelled. I'm now one of the head spies, and you were my hardest assignment. But, now I've got you. It may seem strange for me being here, after all, you thought I was hypnotised to not remember a thing. Well, Let's just say, I wasn't alone.
Now, we've got this building surrounded. There is no escape. So, I'll give you two options- try to escape and meet your death, or obey us and spare life, for what it’s worth.”
The Overlord answered, “I must say, I'm not surprised, but still a bit disappointed. You caught me at a bit of an awkward moment, so if you don't mind, let me finish what I was saying.”
Redwall Musician nodded in agreement, and answered, “Fine, but be quick, and only if you behave afterwards.”
The Overlord accepted, and addressed the servants. “Now, the lucky servant whom I have chosen is- Matthias720. Take care of this place, and please follow through with your promise. Now, I must be going. I always thought this would happen.”
He turned and walked towards Redwall Musician. But, just as he was about to let her handcuff him, he kicked out. His blow caught her right in the stomach, and she doubled back. In this moment, the Overlord fled through the secret entrance. Gun fire started. CIA spies (some the servants recognised, such as the Ski Jacket Guy, Dr. Alan Grant and the man who had led Musician to be hypnotised) raced after him, bullets erupting from their guns. The next thing the servants heard was the sound of a helicopter starting. The Overlord was fleeing. They could hear it as it gradually got quieter and rose higher. The servants ran through the entrance to see what was happening. Then, another bang.
Something had gone horribly wrong. The helicopter rose a few feet, flew a little way towards the base, and then came crashing down. It landed heavily, catching fire and causing the base to crash down. There was no chance the Overlord could have survived. The servants watched shocked as the CIA agents rushed to the crash. One of them yelled back, “It had worked!”
The servants looked puzzled at Musician, who had come outside some time before. “We had a feeling he would do that,” she explained, “so we hid a small but deadly bomb inside the helicopter. One simple press of a button and that-“  she nodded towards the helicopter crash, "-would happen. We have done our job, so now we must be gone. Pleasure meeting you.” She spoke this in a tone that didn't suggest wether she was lying or not.
In a few moments, the CIA had disappeared, leaving the two remaining servants (and a very confused Silvester) standing, examining the crash.

Well, that wraps it up! Congratulations, everyone, on a great round. Matthias, well done on being selected as the new Overlord!

Note, I got permission from Redwall Musician to use her in my ending, so many thanks to her.

I'll post up some of my favourite quotes from this round soon, but now I have to go do some other stuff.

So, what did you guys think?

Worked out well, I think (for me anyway :D). Good job, Daniel.

And a quick FYI for everyone, I'll start the sign-up for the next round either later today or tomorrow; keep you eyes open for that.

By the way, I left it up to you if you wanted to have Silvester, I'm guessing not. Silvester's name was a reference to the Looney Tunes character. I'm not a big fan of the show, but I thought it would be a bit of fun callin him that, you know, an evil cat, Silvester the cat on Loondy Tunes is kinda evil...

Also, what a great ending!

Of course, everyone can join again if they want to. Just pretend you're a new servant.
