The time is nearly upon us! Who else will be joining in on the literary adventure that is National Novel Writing Month?

I have tried and failed for many years, but I'll be here to support those of you do attempt this! I think it's a wonderful idea. I'm hopeless at writing myself, but I do encourage those of you who have the time to give this a go. The NaNoWriMo website has a lot of useful information if you don't know what the program is about.

Just so you know, 50,000 words is less than half a Redwall book!

yeswonderful, I'm guessing you're going to join in this year. What's your novel about, if you don't mind me asking? :)

Ah, yes, NaNoWriMo... Never have participated myself, I mean, they don't have it here, but I like the idea of it. I'll be here for support, like Lily.

Ahaha, what is it about...?

That question has a long answer. It's a sci-fi/fantasy/adventure involving other worlds and races and powers. It's been long in the making for me. I've probably been developing the world of Sadiyya where much of the story takes place for nearly a decade in one way or another. It's a wild, beautiful place with fantastic creatures and beings. There are four main species that we would consider sentient (though most of the creatures in Sadiyya have near-human intelligence, but they are so different in how they function that we would falsely consider them animals rather than intellectual equals) with languages discernible to humans. One of the four species has become very technologically developed, far beyond anything we know. They found a way to create a gate of sorts to Earth thousands of years before the present time, back when human civilization was first beginning. They created many gates at first and tried to interact with humans. However, it became apparent that their powers and knowledge were far too great for people to deal with in a peaceable way, so the teams that had been sent to Earth returned to Sadiyya. The gates, however, could not be closed once they were created. And so Sadiyyans had to protect the gates from both sides to keep anyone from wandering into them from either side. There are some gates that are unregulated and used by those trying to flee Sadiyya for some reason or another. They are generally hidden on the Sadiyyan side, while on the Earth side small communities of Sadiyyans and humans alike have developed around them.

Go forward to the present time. A young woman named Nia is on a soul-searching journey after her family was killed in an accident. She ends up in a small town in the hills of Vermont. The town seems perfectly normal until a seemingly-crazed, half-dead man appears from the woods and is miraculously healed by several of the townspeople. Nia begins to wonder just how normal this place is. Her curiosity takes place of caution with the strange occurrence, and she begins to find out things about the place and several of the people living there that are not of this world...

I've started and stopped with the story many-a-time. The most I've written into the story is around 20k before stopping and changing it (again). So I'm hoping that NaNo this year will help me get some momentum going. It will definitely be more than 50k, but having an initial goal for the month of November is proving to be beneficial.

That sounds right up my alley as a reader! I love that idea. Good luck with it. I've heard that having the plot and other details like that worked out  beforehand really helps with NaNo.

And now for the big question: What's your word count? Have you passed 4000 yet? ;)

yeswonderful

Just about at 4000. 3,833 as of tonight, so on track. I'll get to 5,000 in my writing session tomorrow morning before work most likely. The beginning's been a bit slow. Once I get into more of the action I should be good to go and fly along for a while.

I'm writing about a boy, never named, in 18th century London in an alternate universe. Here, everyone in the world is born with a natural talent with one instrument, some better than others: except him. Until one day, while sleeping in a park, a dark and mysterious voice commands him to "Make me a song!" He cannot, so the voice guides him to creating a black, with strange blood-red tints, violin. It gives him instant incredible power, but it is a dark violin, and he loses his life, and his soul.
Each intrument has a God of Song. There is the God of Violin, the Piano, the Trumpet, etc. We never ever discover what that voice was.
It's called: "Devil's Fiddle" The series is "Devil's Song" Please tell me if this is all good, including the titles!

Horray, more people participating! How are those word counts go? You should have passed the 10000 mark by now, right? Hang in there!

Muse, that sounds really interesting. Dark, but interesting. As a reader, I would want to know what the voice was, though. I'd feel a bit empty inside if I read this tragic book and never found out what it was all for!

Hálig, what are you writing about? Good luck, and have fun!

Muse

Dnt worry it will be a series  and like the Wicked Years youll learn more and more.

Thanks. The next will be a girl in 16th century france who is a piano prodigy. Then her fingers and mind become enchanted by some dark magic, and once again she dies, however, keping her soul by the intervention of a mysterious light.
