i was fortunate to have two very liberal and understanding parents who, when i said i wanted to be vegetarian were incredibly supportive (very recently my dad actually went vegetarian himself). i can appreciate how difficult it must be if you don't have that kind of household though. if you ever need any help on recipes or anything, send me a note and i'll see if i can help. :)

and you're in england now? ... whereabouts?

Thanks. :)

Humans were made to eat meat, as much as a wolf is. But we also have the capability to have a healthy diet completely without meat. I've been vegetarian for a while, (At least two years, it might have been three. Maybe even four?) and I haven't knowingly had any meat at all. I'm not so much concerned about meat being healthy, or about not hurting animals. Predator and prey is nature's way. Things eat other things. But we're so disconnected from that, we don't hunt and we aren't hunted. Idk. I, personally, think we should be either a direct part of the food chain, or not a part at all, rather than taking advantage of it. But again, my personal opinion. Disagree or agree, as you will.

sorry, can i be a bit pedantic here? ... human beings weren't -made- to be anything. we've evolved to be incredibly adaptable in what we eat which is one of the reasons why we've become so successful right across the globe. for example the indians of north america survived for a very very long time with bison as pretty much their only food-stuff, while way over in west-asia you have multiple cultures that have never even touched an animal product. it's this adaptability which has made us so successful.

that wasn't a dig, just another pet peeve of mine i suppose. :)

and that's cool man... i would put forward the "who cares where you live?" line, but i would say that i wouldn't actually know the place you live anyway, so it's not worth it XD

The problem is that no matter how you word it. It's still a dig. Do you realize that you've just insulted just about every person on here that has a religion? There are a lot of us on here, and you saying we weren't made like its a fact and then pushing your own beliefs about evolution on the rest of us is rather rude.  :( And then stating that it's a pet peeve of yours just makes it worse.

This is supposed to be a topic on what people eat, please do not turn this into a discussion on religion which is pretty much banned on the forum as it is a highly controversial topic.

Eh, I'm not too worried about that. ;)

To the above... all it sounded to me was naima saying we evolved our ways to eat in the sense that evolve means 'change', rather than directly saying 'we are a result of evolution, not god!!'. We all know caveman in the Western world hunted a lot of buffalo as a common foodsource... well of course things have changed and so have we. :) Anyway, won't go on about that now. :3

I could experiment with near vegetarianism at some point when I have more independence again, more for a not too much red meat thing and see what it does to my health and stuff. I could never be vegan, though, that would cut my food choice down waaay too much! and I am a little fussy as it is... :D

veganism is -really- hard... i've tried a few times and come unstuck on things which i would have never even dreamed had bits of animals in them. best i've managed is two weeks, but i almost certainly go days at a time without meaning to because there's nothing that i regularly consume which would break rules.

Erm, about me saying people were "Made to eat meat- As much as a wolf is" I meant the way our bodies are, not anything about our creation. Simply that we are capable of doing so. What would have made more sense, would have been to say "Humans were made to be able to eat meat- as much as a wolf is". Apologies. :)

Yup, we're... ah.... "designed" as omnivores (we have sharp and flat teeth).

Just a little thing I have.... fish IS  meat.

But I love steak :D
