It's been a while since I read his book, but I seem to remember thinking he was pretty cool.

I dislike the way he doesn't speak like other hares. It just struck me as a way to generic-ize him, though I suppose the idea was to demonstrate his rebellious tendencies.

Yeah I noticed that too. It was similar to a mole in I think the bellmaker, who didn't speak like other moles did.
