Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone knows why some of the US Ace paperback editions of the Redwall series have shiny borders and some don't? Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

They all have a border, it's just that some of them are cool and shiny. As far as I can tell, not a single person has ever asked this question on the recorded internet. 0.o

I'm trying to complete my collection of those editions, hence my wondering.

Need some help here because I don't know what you mean.  Look at my collection picture below....which book has the "shiny cover" you speak of?

I believe Mort is asking about things like the cover of Triss, Outcast, Marlfox, Pearls of Lutra, etc.

WONWILL is absolutely right! It looks like some of those paperback editions (hard to tell which in the picture exactly, but Outcast is definitely one of them) have colored borders around the artwork that glimmer. All of the editions by that publisher have those colored borders, but only some of them glimmer. I've been entirely unable to figure out or find anywhere what criteria make the glimmering ones different, and thus how to make sure that a book I may be buying online is one of the glimmering editions.

What will make online buying difficult is the fact that there have been new editions released since those ones were put out.  Some sellers won't indicate which edition they have, mostly because it doesn't matter to many buyers.  You can tell I'm not picky about what editions I get. :P

Amazon.com 3rd party sellers usually do not tell which edition they have.  ebay auctions with a photo is probably your best bet if you're looking for a specific edition because then you actually see the book before you purchase it.

Haha yeah, I have a motley collection of editions myself. But somewhere in the back of my mind I've always wanted to have all the shiny covers (I do have them for most of the books, only missing Mariel of Redwall, Martin the Warrior, The Long Patrol, Marlfox, The Legend of Luke, Lord Brocktree, Doomwyte, and The Rogue Crew.)

Ebay has proved the most reliable in the past, the problem is that it can really be heard to tell even in a picture whether or not the border is shiny. :P

Hi, you're referring to the 2010 Redwall repackages, first announced in 2009.

You can find a list of paperbacks here:

"Shiny" picture at the bottom of this article:

TSQ and TRC are the only hardcovers to receive this treatment.

Edit: And I see you were referring to a different kind of "shiny." Don't mind me. ;)
