Yeah, I mean, like, if he didn't invent electricity, what's so impressive about him? Now he's just soooo lame! (JK)

DOCTOR: How is that news to anyone?

"I am Yomin Carr, the harbinger of doom. I am the beginning of the end of your people!" -Yomin Carr

-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.

Well either way, I'm happy. B/c I'm half american and half German. So who ever it was, my ancestry invented the airplane.  :D

Unless it was the New Zealander, or the Englishman, or the Frenchman, or ...   ;)

The Germans did invent the rocket and quite possibly the jet plane though.

Like popcorn!

Nope. It's unlikely Americans (or Native Americans) invented that either, or at least not first. According to legend, it was Popanipacetl, a lowly slave who was due to be sacrificed to the sun god by the ancient Aztecs. So that would make popcorn a South American / Mexican invention.  :)

If they do descover that Benjamin Franklin wasn't the true inventor of electrisety ...

There's not really any "if" about it. It's pretty much certain that he didn't. Link: Who discovered electricity

There's a pile of others. Edison may not have invented the lightbulb, etc. The problem is that accurate and comprehensive record-keeping is really only a fairly recent thing, so what happened and exactly when in history is often difficult or impossible to pin down. :)

It's not just Americans of course who claim the credit. From memory, the Scottish claim to have invented tartan fabric and kilts, when in reality it comes from further south in England or Wales.

In fact, most of the the people listed in history books who you think invented things actually didin't invent them at all, or at least didn't invent them first (they may have invented it without knowing of the other person).
