When did Redwall start to have a library?

Brian Jacques really liked libraries, because most of his books have riddles, and then everyone would sit down in the library and start to solve the riddle.

Redwall is originally shown as an, well, abbey. Even if there was no "entertainment books" (essentially novels) a library was still required to house the Records and, if it was a proper abbey, any religous writings and of course, the Bible.

As shown in all other books, there actually isn't a library until High Rhulain, the records are kept in the gatehouse. The gatehouse keeper is the librarian.

And, sorry to burst your bubble, but the characters rarely ever sit down in the library and start to solve the riddle." Sure, they would use it, but never do all the work in it, with the notable exception of High Rhulain.

I would also like to say that this is a fault in Redwall Abbey on the current Minecraft server, the library is inside the Abbey rather than in the attic or the gatehouse. (don't pay attention to this though, it's just me reminiscing)

It's not a proper abbey and the Bible clearly does not exist in the Redwall world.

But yes they would need a library to house all of the records they wrote, as well as the writings travellers had donated to them (like the guy from Mariel who wrote down the Terramort map poem).

On a slightly related note, Terramort means Death Land in Latin. Nice one Jacques.

"Understood." Will looked at Nico. "Will you be my buddy?"
"You're a dork," Nico announced.

The Skarzs

Like the slightly redundant title of "Martin the Warrior", when the name Martin literally means warrior. :P

And Sage's post summed up pretty much everything needed to be said about the location of a library. It is often necessary to record happenings for future reference or legal evidence, verification, etc. There are hundreds of ship's logs, if not thousands, written by the captains to give an account of the happenings during a voyage.
Cave of Skarzs

Cave potato.

Yeah, I guess what Sage said is right.

About the Minecraft server, The map were using isn't completely accurate... Its from the old redwall server, They built that more for fun and not for complete accuracy. Not saying the map isn't awesome or anything! The map is great! And for the most part the builds are pretty accurate! But were probably gonna build a more accurate map later in time.  :P
