Desktops. Am I stupid?

Right. So, I'm looking into getting a new computer. It'll likely be a while, but I'm wondering about some things. I have to move whatever computer I end up with twice a week. If I use a desktop, I can most likely get two monitors and keyboards. I wouldn't need to move my computer any more than twice a week, because I have the mediocre laptop I'm using now, which should suffice for LAN parties and such.

But yeah. I've never really used a desktop much (Aside from the ancient Mac we used to have, but it's entirely contained in the monitor, so that's entirely different, I'd assume.) so I don't really know a lot about their technicalities. Understanding that a desktop would likely weigh around 20-30 pounds, is it really stupid and bad for the computer to move it twice weekly?

I would say if you are going to have to move it a laptop would be better if you want you can always buy a mouse which you can plug in so you get the desktop feel. I'm not sure if it would be bad for the Desk top to move it twice a week (Though common seance tells me that there is a higher risk of braking it) but I do know that it would be a huge hassle. As far as I know a laptop and a desktop do the same things functionality wise. Twice a week is just a lot for a Desktop that's all. then you would have to set it all up again and plug everything back up just to have to undo it all to move it again. Is there a reason you have to get a desktop and not a laptop?

  I'd say that it's not too bad for your desktop, just kinda tedious 'cause you'd have to plug everything in again twice a week.  Possibly also kinda heavy to lug around, but if you get a smaller case, it probably would be lighter than what I'm thinking of.  (Both the desktops at my house have towers about the size of a mini-fridge.  (Okay, okay, maybe a bit smaller than that.  From the ground up, they're about the height of my dog (a black lab), if not a little taller.))

@Faiy- Yeah, laptops are handy like that. And I already use a mouse, but thanks for the suggestion regardless. (Lol, no way I'm playing Terraria without a USB mouse- I already lose track of my cursor enough as it is.) If I'm not mistaken, desktops and laptops function similarly in the way that you'd use them, but they're very different inside (Of course.) I think it's much easier to replace and upgrade parts in a desktop- Meaning that if you're willing to assemble your computer yourself, you can have a greater degree of control over every thing. And, even better, if you want to upgrade your system, you can upgrade any piece you like. (Something that I'd appreciate- The main reason I'm in need of a new computer is that my current ASUS K55A laptop has an integraded (And weak) GPU, meaning I can't replace it.) However, it might be possible to do similar things with a laptop. More research required on my part.

@Rain- Definitely tedious, yeah. Since I don't use a desktop and never have, I wouldn't know- Is there more than one cable that plugs into a wall? Hmm... I suppose there'd be at least one for the wall and one for the monitor... Plus the headset and USB for the mouse... That doesn't sound too bad... Though I could be completely wrong.

@Romsca- Ooh! Shiny! Apple makes the nicest looking stuff. Both from the outside, and when you're using it. Though, I'm used to Windows 7, and personally, I don't love using Macs- They make it harder to get to the files that run things. Inside of five clicks I can get to the files for any Steam game. Apple has wonderful interfaces, but it's harder to get behind them. Entirely personal preference, though! Thanks regardless!

The head set and the mouse pug in to the computer but there are several other things that plug into the wall. Goes and checks desktop...   Well our desktop is connected to my dads really old laptop (If you move it the monitor goes dead) So that they share monitors so i'm not really sure but there are at least 5 wires coming out of it but only 2 of them connect to the wall before I think there was 4 in the wall but I could be wrong.    I am really bad at this and for a good reason... It is extremely confusing there are a tone of wires and they all go in different places than you think they should... Though when desktops brake it is really fun to open them up and take them apart...

It's nto necessarily bad for the computer... But it's a real pain resetting them up. They have to be reset everytime you unplug the power. The only time I ever unplug our desktop is when my mom is painting, and I don't even like it then...

Well, that's certainly not the words of someone who lives in two houses. Unfortunately I don't have the privilege of never restarting my computer. Which, by the way, is something you should do periodically regardless of whether you have to or not, it helps your performance. And really, just restarting a computer isn't difficult at all, at least, it shouldn't be. And I'm going to have to power down any computer I get to move it, that's completely unavoidable.

...Unless you mean something else by 'reset'?

Yep. At least for my computer, it defaults and all custom settings have to be restored and it has to reconnect to the internet...

I don't think that's the usual, aside from reconnecting to the inernet (Though that's usually automatic.) It certainly isn't the case for any computer I've ever used. What OS do you run?

Do you? I've never actually used XP. My old computer ran Vista. I personally don't like the layout of Windows 8- It's like a tablet! Why? If I wanted a tablet, I'd buy a tablet!
