That's what we're discussing here, because ferrets are domesticated polecats. :P

I kinda think that Brian Jacques was referring to the European Polecat because domestic ferrets are generally fatter and nicer than the ferrets are in the Redwall books, but European Polecats look more weasel-ly and the act more like the Redwall ferrets

Depending on where you live, and whom you ask, "polecat" is another name for "skunk". ;)  When I saw the topic title, I wondered who thought skunks were in Redwall??? :P
