It's an '08 model. For what it's worth, we have an older one sitting just a few feet away that works perfectly fine under the same circumstances. It's just this particular garbage machine.

I've tried resetting the SMC about a hundred times (one for every different way they say to do it). It bugs me because this happens every time the power goes out (or on the rare occasions I've tried to move the computer to another outlet). Anyway, it doesn't as much as twitch.

I have no idea why they got rid of a perfectly good system that worked for over twenty years to install this mess. From a IIvx to a 7500 to Bondi Blue iMacs to a G4, you could be pretty sure that if it didn't power up, there was something physically wrong with the hardware, and that you needed a new part. Now, who knows? It could be that, but it could just as easily be some stupid hidden setting that you have to do a rain dance to get to work properly.

Another day, another power outage, another time I get to post from my PS3.

Every single time the power goes out I have to spend hours cajoling and hitting my iMac to get it to power back up. No other computer they've ever made before this one was so stupid. It just goes to show what happens when they try to get cute with something basic like power management.

Wait... why do you have to do that in the first place? I mean, I have already stated that I know nothing about Macs, but wouldn't that be a clear indication that something is wrong with the power source and that you need a replacement? I know, I know, stupid question but... I don't think that those things have safety breakers or anything, right?
