Happy 4th of July, everyone! Yes, I know the forum clock says 5th of July, but it's still the 4th where I live

I can hear the fireworks from my house!

Wishing you all the best. It's such a blessing to live in the USA. I know this country has a lot of problems of its own, but there are far worse places we could be (I mean no offense with that comment and hope it is not hurtful; it is the stark truth).

Happy Fourth of July! I hope you guys are having a great time celebrating, I know I am. Had amazing ribs, waited two hours to see fireworks, the police showed up because someone got mad at people who were taking up too many parking spots and got into a fight... a very entertaining day

... oh, and several people at up a portapotty (however it's spelled) in the parking lot.

Happy Fourth! We Americans in Turkey celebrated by going to a mall and shopping, eating American burgers, fries, and shakes, and going out for drinks after. No fireworks over here, but there was plenty of celebration.

I am thoroughly enjoying my time abroad, yet seeing countries different than my own has opened my eyes to not only foreign cultures but American culture too. For one, when I am asked what I am and I identify as an American, it's a title treated with awe. For many over here, America is still the dream. It's where the college students wish to study and the lower classes wish to live. There is no upper middle class over here: there are the insanely rich, the poor but secure (able to educate their children and make a living working menials jobs), and those living in poverty, with little mobility. University in America is expensive, but few who truly desire higher education are excluded from obtaining it. I can't be arrested for talking disparagingly about our country's leaders. For all of America's imperfections, I can look at my country and say that it hasn't let me down, so I defend it. It's a great country, and I'm glad to be able to, at summer's end, jump on a plane to return home.

Happy Independence Day! (Well, a bit late but whatever

). My family had fun, starting with a getting with my brothers at one of their homes. Then my mom and I left to take a trip to her mother's where we put on our own fireworks show (as the oldest grandchild still below drinking age, I got stuck with a lot of fun responsibility regarding that

) and afterwards watched another one going on near us. A very loud, bright, and overall fun day spent using our life and liberty to pursue happiness in this great nation.

Happy belated 'Murica Day.

My recent posts may seem a bit critical of this country we call home, but I am truly grateful for the freedom it offers. Hopefully, it will stay that way for a long time.
