I don't know if I would've known it was a video about suicide until the very end with the knife. I probably would have gotten it then even without reading your disclaimer first, but I can't be sure. Either way, the whole chess concept was a very good idea. It gives a different perspective on the issue and makes a person think.

       It's not supposed to be obvious until the end, but I noticed that a lot of people had difficulty figuring it out at the end so I explained it up front.

Well long story short I suck at it, here is an example. I am supposed to interpret this poem line by line

Here is my interpretation

Even if the time was good or bad,

I forgot,
I was so blind, I could not see the present or future,
I had a boring life
Nothing ever happened.
If only I could remember,
The best day of my life, that was awesome,
But the memory is like a footprint in thawed snow;
It seemed so little, and didn't mean much then;
Darn, if only I could remember,
That first touch, only one could ever know!

I don't think it was bad. Although I understand the purpose of the exercise, I think that it's really difficult to just paraphrase line by line. It's more important to be able to recognize the purpose of the overall piece and recognize techniques used line by line. Is this for AP Lit?
