Everyone tends to imagine characters (and places) in stories differently, which is why it's often best to read a book yourself rather than see a movie which has someone else's ideas in it. There's also the silly "reboots" / "reimaginings" where the characters are often changed - as a very simple example, the new Superman movie has a blonde Lois Lane, but in many people's imaginations and in most previous versions she has been dark haired (likely because of the stereotype of a blonde being brainless).

I think some movie directors do a good job of portraying literature characters on the screen. When I watched Peter Jackson's Lord of the rings trilogy for the first time, the characters were pretty close to how I pictured them. I do agree with your statement somewhat though. Most of the animals in the Redwall t.v show weren't how I pictured them like I pictured them while I was  reading the books. It's not a perfect show, but I think it's decent enough.

I agree that everyone has their own version in their head of what is on the written page.  I also agree about the reboots though.  I dislike it when movies or shows stray far from the source material when there is plenty of good material.

While I enjoyed seeing Redwall being brought to life as a cartoon, I was bummed about how so much was changed when it didn't have to be.  I guess I'll never understand why the two mediums always seem to work against one another instead of in conjunction.  Hence why I'd love to see a fresh Redwall animated show that really follows books.

Since Mr. Jacques was such a brilliant story teller, there is really no need to add or cut anything...I love the unabridged audiobooks, those are a great example.

In the movies, Aragorn is trying to not become king. In the books, he knows he is going to be king, he is just waiting for the right time.

My vision of the characters was quite close too.

After watching the third season, I'm mad at Brian for killing Rose.(Which in the last episode she did not die the right way: Badrang killed her with Martin's sword, while she should have been thrown to the wall)

Killconey doesn't seem very evil in the TV series; in fact, he's rather likable. He's also one of the few characters in the TV series to have an American accent.

I'm slowly getting through the first series. It is a rather tedious cartoon. They've been a bit too gentle with the stories - had this been made even 10 years before it would have been more gutsy. (No blood at all? Really? The animation would still be poor, but it wouldn't matter so much if the stories were well put together, as has been seen with some earlier cartoons. Back to the actual cartoon, when I did watch the odd episode a few years back I didn't think they'd portrayed Badrang and co. very well - was that supposed to be a stoat??? In my recent viewing of the first series it was odd that they had a bitwith Basil in and he's supposed to be angry yet he's smiling! Very lazy animation in parts; I guess their budget wasn't huge. It's a shame this wasn't more of a collaboration with England like Watership Down at a similar time was, maybe with some actual British accents.

Anyway, I will continue to slowly get through the three series from curiosity. I voted 'no', by the way, because I'm not sure that even a restart would get it right. Maybe in a few more years if people are prepared to spend a bit more time on it.
