(Presumable it comes from the 19th century and was used literally by English speakers, where they'd use a French word or phrase, and then say "excuse my French", assuming that their listeners wouldn't understand the language.  There only one real source for that though, so it may not be accurate.)

Not sure about that, but the Greek version of the phrase 'it's all Greek to me', means 'this strikes me as Chinese'.
