According to Wikipedia, 11% of people in the USA are infected with toxoplasmosis.

By the by, the part about mind-control was a joke, since I'm assuming that wasn't obvious.  There have been studies showing what some of the effects of the parasite might be, but it's still a not very well known thing.

Toxoplasmosis is real, we primarily get it from cats nowadays (or so I'm lead to believe), and it does seem to have some mind altering influences.
