...are to block out the sun and keep people from looking through the windows they cover, yes.

*sulks*

There there, sweetie.  Now, where would you like to visit in this haunted mansion?  I'm sure whatever room you think of, we'll be able to locate.

*stops sulking* Is there anywhere with a really, really long banistered staircase?

No idea, but I'm sure we could find one!  Are you looking for a sort of spiral, or more of a straight banister?

Ok, well, lets look around and see what we can find!  *They turn a corner and instantly come across a huge, dark abyss off to the right of the hallway before them.  In the middle, there is a single, large staircase that disappears downwards into the nigh infinite blackness.  The banisters on this set of stairs look to be newly waxed and seem primed for somebeast to slide down them.*

Well, that isn't ominous.
