I'm making a joke off of the name of the series. After all, it's kinda impossible to hunt shadows. If I were taking it literally, the name is nonsensical. With such a nonsensical name, it only follows that there are other nonsensical elements in the plot. As in, hating a specific bird.

It's in the third and fifth books. It's probably a good thing I didn't recite the entire saga because it involves spoilers.
