I do, actually, having helped my mom make pumpkin pie for Halloween every year for three years. But throwing pies isn't a waste as long as you hit your target properly.

We bought the ingredients, yes. I remember the pumpkin made a huge mess. And Mom made the pastry.
It technically isn't a waste, because this is the Cellars, so the pie wasn't real. And in the Cellars, we have food fights all the time, and you never object to them.
