(More civilized? It is such a demeaningly simple system! Everything in multiples of ten? Where lies the skill in knowing that system? A system whose name literally means "measurement system"!)

It is the simplicity that makes it better, more practical, and easier to use. As for the name, it says what it is, and what it does, so doesn't that make it a good name for it?
