No it's not, at least it's absent in Eulalia!. I'm currently reading Doomwyte and there were scrolls and books in the GATEHOUSE.

Alrite, sorry for double posting but I just finished Doomwyte and it DEFINITELY takes place before Marlfox, the watermeadow that was formed out of the wooded hill appears in Marlfox (at least it's in approximately the same place on the map)

Maybe, but the maps are almost always inconsistent.
Martin the Warrior is way more epic than Mickey Mouse. Anyone who says otherwise is insane, or just wrong.

-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.

Yes, and the books contradict themselves sometimes.
