Strange. My mom has watched that movie, and she said that when Timmy fell into the well, Lassie barking at her owners, and they said something like, "What? Timmy fell into the well? Okay, then, we'll go fish him out."
'We stop looking for monsters under the bed when we realize they are inside of us'
"If you gaze long enough into the abyss, it'll gaze back at you"

Mara the Wolf

I was talking about the TV series. I'm not sure about the movies.

Yup. The trope is named for Lassie, who was always alerting the humans to any trouble in the area. Please note, however, that the phrase is a Beam Me Up, Scotty!, as Timmy never actually fell into a well. He fell into a lot of things, but never a well. The fact that Timmy never fell down a well is amazing, seeing as how most of the trouble he got into is A) generally lethal and B) things no normal child of average intelligence should ever have to deal with. Clearly, falling down a well was too mundane for him. John Provost, who played Timmy, titled his autobiography Timmy in the Well: The John Provost story, after the phrase. Here's a short list of things Timmy has done that Lassie has saved him from:

  • runs into a burning house to save a neighbor lady and passes out ("The Whopper")
  • is endangered by dynamite picked up by an escaped lab chimp ("The Man from Mars")
  • is locked in a shed with Lassie by an armed robber ("Star Reporter")
  • runs away from home believing he and a friend killed someone ("Alias Jack and Joe")
  • is exposed to radiation ("Space Traveler")
  • gets trapped on a cliff with Rudy and Don ("Explorers")

He probably pressed quote instead of modify or something. I've done that before.

Also, who is Timmy? Do you mean the little lamb with a lot to learn, or the kid on the back of the bike?
Error. Error. Cannot compute.

Mara the Wolf

The kid owner of Lassie in the novels, most movies, & TV series.

Life is often like pushing a luggage cart through the airport. Sometimes I feel ridiculous, sometimes I look ridiculous, but I just keep pushing that luggage cart, and hoping I'm generally heading in the right direction.
Always keep your word, always finish what you started, and never go unprepared.

I thought that was Joe...

In the TV series, Lassie was the pet of Jeff Miller (Tommy Rettig), and in later seasons Timmy Martin (Jon Provost), of "What's that, Lassie? Timmy's fallen down a well?" fame — although a well was one of the few things Timmy didn't fall down in the course of the series.
