It had been a Guosim attack. That much was obvious from the what seemed like dozens of small paw prints in and around the camp. They were far from the river here but that would only mean so much if the shrews had a reason to attack. It made Din wonder what these Vermin had done to get such ire directed at them. Pointy ire of rapiers and smaller arrows.

Stepping over a ferret who was staring up at the sky with a rapier wound to his throat. Din just shaking his head as he crouched down and closed the vermins eyes before limping further into the camp. Truthfully he wasn't sure if he wound find anything. He knew from very personal experience that the Shrews were very good at efficient assaults' of a location and the chances of any still being alive was low. But he had been in such a similar position to these fallen creatures in his early life. The chance no matter how small of finding a wounded creature to help them turn their life around was too much for him to leave.

So the old stoat slowly limped around in the light shortly after dawn. Drawn to the camp from the wispy smoke of an old fire and the smell of death. Looking for survivors to try and help.

Mara the Wolf

#1
The body of a jill (female ferret) suddenly started moving. She couldn't possibly still be alive, though, as she had taken an arrow to the heart. However, parts of her moved and Din might hear muffled grunting.

Having just stepped over the ferret Dins good ear flicked. That was noise. And it wasnt out in the forest. So turning around he would kneel down besides the lass and lay his staff down. Turning his head to the side to better hear as he then nodded. She was alive...But that was a bad wound in her chest. Gently taking her shoulders Din tried to lay her on her back so he could examine it better. Taking out his canteen and resting it next to her head. This would be tricky but if she stayed out it would make it easier.

Setting a bag of healing supplies next to him he flexed out his paws before moving closer to see how deep the arrow was. Working on measuring the overall lenght between his fingers to guess how much was inside.

Mara the Wolf

Din should've realized just by looking at the jill's glazed, wide-open eyes she was already dead. The signs of life seemed to not be coming from her, but somebeast trapped underneath her.

(Interesting fakeout P:)

Having focused so much on the arrow Din finally glanced up to see that she was quite dead...well that was a downer for the entire mood there as he sighed and shut her eyes before looking back down at the wound. There was the noise again. Reaching to slip his arms under the dead ferrets arms he worked on pulling her as carefully as he could off in his direction to see what was making this noise.

It had been a large attack, something easily could have slipped through the cracks.

Mara the Wolf

(Was not intended as a fakeout)

As Din moved the body, he'd find a young ferret with cream-colored fur, with silver fur on his lower body, grey legs, black tail, brown eyes, and no bandit mask, wearing a dark red jerkin over a brown tunic and black boots that seem just a bit too big for him. The kit practically darted off as soon the jill was off him. He panted heavily a moment, before bothering to look back to Din. His eyes went wide on the dead jill. "M-mom..." he breathed, barely above a whisper.

The youth seemed alive, especially after he darted out from under the slain lass. But Dins worse fears were quickly confirmed as the Youth identified the dead as his mother. Oh dear. He would likely be irrational right now but Din had to try as he spread out his arms to show no weapon and flipped back his hood to show he was a vermin like him.

"Take a few deep breaths Young'in. Your mother has been slain but the shrews or more of your fellows could still be around. You need to remain calm and help. We can still help others."

In the clearing by the river moss, log boats lined the shores. And the small owners, who would argue they were not small, danced about the boats, bickering, singing, and telling stories of their escapades.
The skirmish of the previous night had gone in their favor, and, short of a few injured fighting shrews, they came out more or less unharmed, and the stolen young ones were safe and sound.
But despite the cheerful throng, one young face remained solemn. A
nd his name was Willber Streamrunner. Today had been the day, the last of them was gone, he had avenged them.. So why did he feel so...Sad? No that wasn't the word.. Tired? Though the fight with the fox had been long and hard, he hadn't gotten too worn out..
The young shrew got up, and wandered absently away from his celebrating pairs, and towards the forest, and thus, the battle scene.
After half an hour or so of walking, the small animal reached the place where they had ambushed the vermin. He plopped himself down on a  stump, and mumbled to himself, and started sharpening one of his knives.
Three minutes later..
The young shrew's head drooped onto his chest, and his grip on his knife loosened until it dropped onto the soft forest floor, soon followed by the sleeping Willber.

(OOC: I hope this is okay, I'm not really a pro at RPing, and I wasn't sure howe to end the post :I)

(Its all good! Going to step away from Mara since they seem to be mia so Din and Willber can chat)

Having thankfully got the youth vermin sat down and trying to search through some of the camp materials for herbs and dressings Din was limping his way to try and find more injured but still breathing. It was lucky he was used to this over a lifetime of violence as it was looking very poor for any other survivors. He had managed to get one rat gal up and helped her over to the ferret son to try and help and was heading out again. Which is when he saw the shrew.

Freezing at that sight he roved his eyes around as he kept his arms spread from his side. In case there were more waiting in the shrubs. Nothing. Biting his lip he for once was really unsure what to do. This wasn't a victory party come back to loot. It was just a single shrew. Perhaps a scout but they were young. And seemed to be asleep. Sink it. This would be an issue if he did nothing so he did what he could to limp over quietly as he used his walking staff to nudge the knife a little further away before taking a breath and raising the staff up higher to nudge the youth in the shoulder. Hood still down so they could see he was a stoat.

The young one was jolted from sleep by the slight touch, is training with his master had taught him that much, and by instinct he reached for his knife, but it was gone!
In groggy confusion he looked around, then he saw it, a tall towering figure with a staff, a cloak hid his features. And in that moment, after the long fight, the draining emptiness, and lack of proper sleep, his fighting spirit left him. His eyes, wide and frightened, his tail, barely twitching, and his breaths coming in gasps, Willber scrambled back, tripped on a shrub, and fell, even further from his knife. Finally, he managed his emotions and spoke.
"Who are you? And what do you want with me?"

Staying where he was as the shrew had a little panic moment, understandable given that he was a fully grown vermin looking down on him. Though he made sure his hood was down before he spread his arms to show he had nothing but his staff. "Dinah - please calm down youngin. Im here trying to help the survivors of an attack. The one your tribe likely did. I want nothing from you. I would just request you not attack the wounded I am trying to assist."

The old stoat hoped this shrew would be reasonable. And not go and bring fourth the clan to execute the few survivors.

#12
The smaller beast let out a sigh, less, of relief, and more to release pressure.
His guard still very much up, Willber nodded, and answered.
"Very well...Do you need any assistance?" The young woodlander saw no reason not to help. After all, these beasts had homes to return to, and families to feed. The shrews had only attacked to retrieve their young. That, of course excluded Willber who had come with the secondary motive to avenge his family, but he had been sure to kill the one he hunted. For the others, he cared not.
They weren't the ones to slaughter a whole family, babes included.
In the mist of his thoughts, the young shrew completely forgot to ask the beast's name, but he shook that thought off, and walked over to retrieve his weapon from the ground, his guard still up incase the other beast tried anything.

(OOC: He doesn't know your character is vermin, but also, shrews are vermin by definition, so ehhhhh....Don't thhiiink he cares about that, he's only got his guard up because he was trained to do so. Plus he's lived in Mossflower long enough to know there are cazies who think they're bushes)

That was a surprise when the shrew asked to help. Making the stoat look around again to see if he spotted any other shrews or that the camp was still full of dead and dying. Finally looking back at the shrew he nodded. "If you are willing yes - though were you not one of the ones to attack this vermin camp? I find it very strange that you are now willing to help." He turned sideways and started to limp back toward the center of the camp.

"But as you wish. If you could look around for any bandages, herbs, and other healing items I can use to tend to the wounded. And if you find any still breathing please help them to get to me." A few clicks and clacks later Dinah had a small fire started as he stood up his bindle to start heating up some water.

The young shrew was slightly reluctant to correct the other beast's assumption, so he didn't. He simply nodded and walked off the path a bit to find herbs. Of course, he could just go back to camp and say he found an injured beast who needed help, but on further thought, he realized this would be a mistake.
Not only would he have to explain where he had been, but also why no one could come with him to help.
This, would be problematic. Instead, he simply found some very large leaves and and the herbs he needed to make an ointment to clot blood, and another to sooth pain.

After a while of checking over bodies, and trying to stay out of sight of a young ferret.
Willber thought he probably wouldn't want to see another shrew so soon after the attack, so he kept his distance.
