'Most likely aren't' means that some could be. But even if none of them are actually followers of Jesus and may not reflect the majority of Christians, the fact is that they think they are, they're seen as such, and have influence. That is the problem.

I said "most likely aren't" because, as I stated, in the end it's something only God knows.  I personally don't believe that such people are actual Christians.

And I agree with you; the fact that people like that say that they're Christians, and may in fact believe it as well, is a real problem.  It isn't a problem with Christianity though, it's a problem with the sin that such people are willfully coating themselves in.  Regardless of what the Bible or any other Christians say, they will only believe what they want to believe.  Thought processes like that aren't something that are even specific to religion, that's just how some, even many, people in general behave.

I would say that it is something that's often ignored.

I'd say that it's often harder to change the beliefs of someone religious than someone not, and, as I said before, there's the thing about limits as well. That can be a good thing, can be a bad thing, depending on the situation.

I dunno, have you ever tried to convince a hardcore racist that racism is stupid?  They are very stubborn in their thought processes :giggle:

I think that anyone with a firmly held "belief", religious or otherwise, tend to be resistant.

Either way, good discussion ^-^

I'm still against lettuces though.

Not racism as far as I can remember, but other things.

But if someone thinks that what they are doing is dictated by God and they aren't afraid of possible consequences because they think they'll go to heaven, it's almost impossible to persuade them otherwise, as well as almost impossible to stop them believing in God. At least with someone non religious even if you can't change their mind, you can at least try to persuade them that people won't like them if they're openly prejudiced, and they're slightly more likely to care. But it's those same traits that mean that it can be easier for religious people in some cases to not give up when they're trying to do good. There are positives and negatives, really.

Yeah, good discussion. Quite imteresting. And no one called anyone delusional, so that's a plus.

And I refuse to repeat the conversation in the other thread.

Shall we instead make puns about lettuce?

Perhaps you need a course on pun creation.
