Well, it turns out there are more people who like metal here than I thought!

This thread is just gonna be for discussions of it in general (could also just be metal in general and its many subgenres) so I'm gonna start out with some bands I like

Fleshgod Apocalypse~ an Italian symphonic death metal band, my favorites from them are Pendulum and The Violation
Manntra~ A Croatian power metal band, my Favorites from them are Sin and Sanjaj
Ice Nine Kills~ A metalcore band that started out more punky got famous for their two Silver Scream albums which are just horror movies fansongs, keep in mind that most of their songs I could not post here because they would break forum rules. My favorites from them are The Coffin is Moving and Ex-Mortis.

I obviously like a lot more but this is just to start us off!
Woo yeahhhh let's go hooray

The Skarzs

I'm not huge on all metal, but I like some.
Demon Hunter has some good stuff
Banshee is simply unique
I like a few other songs that I think are classified as metal but I can't remember their bands
Cave of Skarzs

Cave potato.

Fleshgod Apocalypse! I just got into them recently through their Opera album. Blew me away!  Consider me an instant fan. If there ever was such a thing as "Opera Metal", these guys have for sure invented it.

Anyway, a little backstory for me. I grew up in the late 90s/early 2000s, the alternative/punk rock era; that mall/skater punk kind of scene. To this day, I still enjoy that kind of music because it defined my childhood. Everything from pop punk to hardcore skater punk, love that stuff to death. I also had a lot of classical music through playing the piano growing and studying Vocal Performance as a classical singer in community college (although I never had the chance to finish that degree).

Heavy metal was only the next natural progression for me. Coming from a classical and punk background, it only made logical sense. My introduction to heavy metal music was actually through the Guitar Hero games. I discovered many of my favorite bands today through them.

Slipknot (my #1!)
Metallica
Avenged Sevenfold
Megadeth
Slayer
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
DragonForce

And that's just the tip of the iceberg for me. I've also really enjoyed the music of Blind Guardian, Breaking Benjamin, Ghost, Stone Sour, Sabaton, Disturbed, Metal Church, KoRn, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Testament, and Rage Against the Machine. Swollen Teeth is also pretty good, too. A friend of mine on Discord introduced me to the music of The Hu, a Mongolian metal band.

I've likewise found metalcore to be a ton of fun with the likes of All That Remains and Killswitch Engage.

In recent years, I've started digging head-deep into more extreme and death metal. Death (naturally), Meshuggah, and Cattle Decapitation. I'm sure there's tons more I've listened to; they're just all escaping me right now.

shisteer of nothing much

I've never really gotten into metal big time, but The Last Stand and The Winged Hussars (both by Sabaton) are super awesome songs that I enjoy regularly. They've kinda opened the door, so now I might try out some others. 'Tis a whole new world for me.

Long live the RRR!

I used to like Sabaton (although not anymore) and I really like Powerwolf.

Honestly, I love Death metal but I could never really get into Death itself and I'm not sure why.

Also, I LOVE A7X. What your fav song from them? Mine's Acid Rain.
Woo yeahhhh let's go hooray

shisteer of nothing much

... You probably couldn't get into death itself because you're... alive.

The trouble with... honestly music in general, is so much of it is about subject matters I don't want anything to do with, so looking into new music can be dangerous. Any recommendations for songs that are most certainly definitely child friendly?

Ah cannae really zink o' a band off ze top o' me 'ead zat'z completely child-friendly- definitely nae ze Scottish pirate-metal band Aleztorm (ozer zan zey're zong Zet Zail Und Conquer).

Na' zongz, Ah can zink o' a lot- Hammerfall (az vell az many ozer pover metal bandz) mainly daez fantazy zongz, zae ye'd probably foind many by zem. Vizionz O' Atlantis 'az zeveral zongz, zuch az me favourite Mazter Ze Hurricane und zeir zong Naezin' Laztz Forever, zat are zafe. Ze majority o' ze zongz by Zerenity 'ave clean lyricz, alzough zome o' ze muzic videoz 'ave zcenez zat could be caved objectionable. Tae lizt zome zongz und zeir bandz:

-Renegade by Hammerfall
-Mazter Ze Hurricane by Vizionz O' Atlantis
-Mighty Magic Mammoth by Victorius
-Hector'z Hymn by Hammerfall
-Naezin' Laztz Forever by Vizionz O' Atlantis
-A Journey Tae Remember by Vizionz O' Atlantis
-Heroez O' Our Toime by Dragonforce
-Heeding Ze Call by Hammerfall
-Alvayz Vill Be by Hammerfall
-(Ve Make) Sweden Rock by Hammerfall
-Reflectionz (O' AD) by Zerenity
-Ze Ztory Ain't O'er by Avantasia
-Ze Moonflower Zociety by Avantasia
-Never Taae Late by Unisonic
-Your Toime 'az Come by Unisonic
-Victoriouz Dinogodz by Victorius
-Lozt In Zpace by Avantasia

Ah'm nae zure if it countz, but Veird Al Yankovic did a parody zong caved Livin' In Ze Fridge o' ze zong Livin' On Ze Edge by ze band Aerozmith. Ah've nae 'eard ze original zong (zae Ah cannae tell if it 'az any objectionaly lyrics) but ze parody zong'z lyricz are completely clean.

'ope ziz 'elpz!

Oh, goodness, so many! My #1 favorite would have to be "Buried Alive", from the Nightmare album! It's my favorite album of theirs. I also adore Waking the Fallen and Hail to the King. And I adored The Stage and Life Is But a Dream.... Those two albums came out at just the right times in my life.

Also, I don't judge you for not getting into Death. That's perfectly all right. They definitely aren't for everyone, for sure.
