That's a fair point, because fitting in is something we naturally want.  That being said, if they think something as trivial as that is annoying to them, then are they really worth fitting in with in the first place?

If you aren't overtly trying to annoy them, then you shouldn't have to worry. Besides, if you can't act naturally around them, are they really your friends in the first place?
