Actually, they couldn't be speaking terribly different, since it's been translated into English (or whatever language you're reading it in), so it should have a pretty stable level of coherency.  But yes, the two testaments were written in two different languages, Hebrew and Greek.

Exactly! The interpretations of the storys and how they are presented especially affect the FEEL of the story.

Also Aramaic. I'd be lying if I said I knew what parts of the 66 books were originally written in that language.
It also depends what translation you're reading in any given language, as the paths differ in their derivation.
In addition, it would depend on when the translation was produced. For instance, the Holman Christian Standard Bible (2004) being better understood in modern English than, say, Wycliffe's bible (1382-1395).

Again, your version doesn't matter if you aren't learning anything. Let's keep that in mind.

I use Douay-Rheims bible and I just got done reading Acts for school.

I generally use the NKJV+NIV, but Thw Message is good for getting a more contemporary translation. (I also like the Message version of Colossians 2:7a, which states, "School's out!")

I can't stand the Message for the same reason! I mean, what a great way to ruin scripture!
