The Blade of Noonvale. A tale from Redwall

Ch. Fourteen

           In Redwall Abbey Devilrat attacked many times but was beaten back. The redrawallers were getting very weary of battle and Barbossa's crew was getting smaller.
"Well father abbot we are running low on supplies and men." said Matthias in the abbot's council meeting.
"Aye we be losing the war ole abbot," said Barbossa stroking his wiskers like he usually did.
"We must ration out our food stores carefully." said Abbot Alf who was presiding over the meeting.
"And what of our loss of men?" asked Orlando sharpening his axe.
"We must take better precautions on spotting the enemy before they are right on top of us." said the abbot slammmg his fist on the table.
"Don't kill ye self ye ole abbot." whispered Barbossa to himself.
"Alright everybeast the meeting is over." said Abbot Alf getting up from his chair, "and I'm going to bed."
The redwallers all went to their night positions and bed. Barbossa was headed for room in the dormitories when he bumped into Elizabeth and they both fell over.
"Oh excuse me Mr. Sparra," said Elizabeth picking up the things she dropped. Barbossa helped her pick them up saying, "pardon me saying miss but I think there should be a cap'n in there."
"Oh I'm sorry sir.. Uh... Captain... I didn't know."
"It's fine. It's just a title. So your name is Elizabeth, right?"
"uh yes captain."
"Just call me Barbossa."
"I like that name."
"Thank ye miss."
"Can I see you again Barbossa?"
"Yes ye can miss. I'll see you tomorrow in the orchard?"
"That would be nice Barbossa." said Elizabeth getting up.
"Ahem! I hope I'm not interrupting anything!" said Constance Badger with her arms crossed.
"eek! Constance I'm uh... I mean uh..." squeked Elizabeth running down the hall trying to not get in trouble with the badgermum of Redwall.
"Is that all you do at this abbey?! Scare beautiful mousemaidens?!" said Barbossa very angry.
"No it's not you barnacle loving corsair!" growled Constance at him, "You cannot marry a sister of our abbey! They are not permitted to marry!"
"Then how come you just got engaged to Orlando?!"
"I'm not a sister of the abbey!" said Constance rolling up her sleeves and picking up a staff.
"Well if you try to beat me you'll have my blade to deal with!" yelled Barbossa drawing his sword as Constance swung her stuff at him only to have it blocked. At that moment Matthias walked by and saw them fighting.
"REDWALLLLLLLL!!!!" yelled Matthias pulling out his sword and charging Barbossa thinking he betrayed them. Constance swung her staff again but this time he dodged it and cut the staff in half. Matthias reached the fight just in time to see Barbossa hit Constance on the head with the bottom of his sword and knock her out. Matthias swung his sword at Barbossa and had it flung out of his hand by a swift sword trick of Barbossa. He was knocked on the ground by Barbossa and was held there as he was asked,
"What are ye doing matey? Attacking me and all that!"
"You traitor! You were turning on us!"
"I was not! She whipped out a staff and threatened me so I pulled out me sword and defended myself!"
Then Constance woke up to see Barbossa helping Matthias up. She grabbed her staff to hit him when Matthias said, "stop this right now both of you! No more!"
"Matthias I respect you but he tried flirting with one of the sisters! That is not permitted!"
"Stop Constance let's go let the abbot settle this! And y-!" he stopped mid sentence and looked around, "Were's Barbossa!?"

       Barbossa had run off to his room so that they couldn't yell at him,
"Well that was jolly close!"

Ch. Fiveteen

       The next day in Redwall Matthias and Constance had decied that if they told the abbot about Barbossa's actions he might send him away from the abbey and they needed his crew for help so they decieded to wait. Constance went to go help the maids in the kitchen while Matthias went to go talk to the troops to keep up morale. Barbossa was on the walls looking northwest just staring. Orlando walked up to him and said,
"What are you looking at pirate?"
"Agutrot.. My home away from home... I just hope it hasn't fallen to Devilrat."
"Ah don't worry I bet the Long Patrol has it protected."
"I hope your right Orlando...." said Barbossa quitely. That night in the Redwall orchard Barbossa was standing next to an apple tree waiting for Elizabeth.
"I wonder where she could be?" he said to himself stroking his wiskers. Then she came out from behind a tree with a black cloak and veil on.
"I'm so sorry i'm late Barbossa I had trouble getting out here I didn't want Constance to see me. You know what she would do." said Elizabeth sitting down next to him.
"Well that wouldn't go well now would it?" he said smiling. She giggled when he said this and replied,
"Oh that wouldn't be good at all."
"Now was every thing fine today?"
"Oh all was fine Barbossa. I had a very good day. How about you?"
"Well you know I had to do all that milatary stuff. It was very boring if you ask me."
"Well that's not fun at all. I've had those days." said Elizabeth moving a little closer to him. "Well it wasn't all that bad. I mean it could have been worse."
"Barbossa I think you work to much."
"Well thats probably true."
"I think you need to rest some. Take a break."
"Well i'll ask Abbot Al-!" said Barbossa mid sentence as she gave him a nice warm kiss. He looked at her and she was blushing. He stroked her hair and they started kissing each other.  

               They met several times under that apple tree and each time though they almost got caught. But one time in particular was very special. Barbossa was waiting under the tree for Elizabeth.
"I hope she doesn't get caught... Ah there she is." said Barbossa as she showed up in her usual black cloak and veil. She ran up and hugged him then said,
"Oh it's good to see you ok! I was afraid that grumpy old Constance might have caught you."
"Well she won't be finding us anytime soon." said Barbossa as they kissed each other. But right at that moment Constance, Abbot Alf, and Matthias were headed for the orchard to have a private meeting.
"So what did Captain Barbossa do?" asked Alf.
"Well he was in the Great Hall when he-" Constance was interrupted by Matthias saying, "Get down! Constance well look at that! You didn't have to waist your breath! Actions speak louder than words."
They all hid behind an apple tree and saw Barbossa kissing Elizabeth. Abbot Alf was shocked and looked at Matthais and Constance with his mouth wide open.
"That's what he was doing?!"
"In a less uh... Loving sense yes."
"I'll show him a thing or two when he breaks the abbey rules!" said Constance rolling up her sleeves.
"No! Stop Constance!" said Alf as Constance turned around to look at him, "What is it father abbot?"
"Do not lay a paw on him."
"But he!"
"Without me."
Matthias stayed out of the whole thong and went back to his cottage. Meanwhile Constance and Abbot Alf snuck up on Barbossa and Elizabeth. She was leaning her head on Barbossa's shoulder when Constance grabbed Barbossa by the neck, pinned him on a tree and knocked him out. Elizabeth was terrified that Constance found them ad she tried to run but bumped into Alf who said,
"You are in big trouble young lady!"

Lol... I just love Pirates of the Caribbean...but I could never picture Barbossa and Elizabeth... But this is great, Abbot Alf!

Ch. Sixteen

         Mattimeo, Tim, and Tess were looking for the old shrine on Mossflower.
"It has to be here somewhere!" said Mattimeo very angry.
"Well if we knew where it was then we wouldn't be out here in the middle of nowhere.!" replied Tim.
"Shut up Tim I don't need this right now!" said Mattimeo.
"Stop both of you! This is getting us nowhere!" said Tess putting a hand on each of their shoulders. They looked in all the places they could think of. They covered every inch of woods on that side of the river Moss and the old quarry.
"Maybe its not on this side of the quarry." suggested Tim. "Well then it wouldn't be hidden. All of the land between the old quarry and the ocean are open plains." said Mattimeo.
"We must sit down and take a break," said Tess, "I'm going to die in this heat." as she sat down on a stone. Then Tim said , "Tess stand up for a minute." As she got up he looked at the stone closely.
"There's writing on it! It says, He who knows the song of Noonvale may enter. Hm... quick! Mattimeo sing that song you where humming.!" Then Mattimeo sang the song that Rose taught him.

                               "You will find me at Noonvale on the side of a hill,
                                       
                                        When the summer is peaceful and high
                                   
                                 There where streamlets meander the valley is still,

                                      'Neath the blue of a calm cloudless sky......"

Then the rock began to glow blue and it sunk into the ground and the ground started shaking and stairs appeared into the ground.
"Uh... you can go first Matty!" said Tess hiding behind him. They ventured into the darkness with Mattimeo in the front.....

          In Rewdall, Sister Elizabeth was to work in the kitchens as punishment for breaking the abbey rules. Barbossa was locked in his dormitory while he was still unconscious. Only Constance had the key.
"Let me outta here!" yelled Barbossa banging on the doors of his dorm.
"We should probably let him out and warn him not to brake the rules of our abbey again." said Abbot Alf as him, Constance, Orlando, and Matthias walked to Barbossa's room.
"Quite in their!" yelled Orlando banging the door with the bottom of his axe.
"We will let you out if you promise not to break the rules of our abbey again!" said Alf.
"Agreed!"
"Then Constance let him out." As Constance pulled out the keys and unlocked the door Barbossa walked out and said, "Now if you excuse me. I have business to attend to!" as he left for the courtyard. They shook their heads and went back to their duties. Barbossa was on the walls by himself looking out for enemies as Elizabeth went up to him with some lunch,
"Here you go captain."
"I told you to call me-"
"Barbossa. I know but im not supposed to call you that anymore."
"Well i'll show them not to mess with-!"
"Captain. Please don't. I'll be fine..." said Elizabeth as she began to cry and left the walls. Barbossa sighed and ate his lunch. Later he was walking through the orchard when he bumped into Elizabeth. They got and saw Constance coming. Elizabeth wispered, "Forgive me Barbossa." then she slapped him and left. Constance laughed at this and went back to work. Barbossa got over the fact that she had to slap him to get out of trouble.

     He was sleeping by the gate one day when he woke up to the sound of metal. He jumped up and saw a hole in the gound.
"Well shiver me timbers. When did that show up?" Then he heard somebeast yell, "RATS!!" He looked at the gate just in time to see three rats open the gate and let the whole army of Devilrat in!
"Ahoy! Redwallers!! The're attackin!" he yelled running for the abbey center. Then the army of Devilrat clashed with the defenders. The battle lasted for hours and was going badly for the Redwallers. Barbossa ran up to Matthias who had just killed some stoats that attacked him and said, "Matthias! We must fall back! We can't hold out!"
Matthias nodded and turned around to see Ragals bash him in the head with a club. It knocked Matthias's helmet off and knocked him out cold. Martin's sword flew through the air and stuck into the ground right in front of Barbossa. He picked it up and heard a voice in his head,
"Barbossa Sparra...Run...Run so that my visions may be true..." He then bolted for the center of the abbey. The vermin were swarming the abbey and killing tons of Redwallers. Barbossa ran into the Great Hall and cut the picture of Martin the Warrior out of the tapastry, folded it up, and put it in a bag. He ran to elizabeth's dorm and banged on the door. She open it knowing it was him adn he grabbed her hand and said,
"We must get out. Redwall will fall. Even Martin has told me."
"But Barbossa!"
"I'm sorry Elizabeth.." said Barbossa taking her hand and running to the back gate. She looked at him and kissed him then they ran from the abbey. They looked back and saw a flag with a red rat on it holding two swords. Then Barbossa looked at her and said,
"Redwall Abbey has fallen...."

*sighs* I love that song. Rose from the TV series...her voice is beautiful.

Is Matthias dead? Will you write a sequel where Barbossa and Elizabeth raise an army to reclaim it?
