YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!  A lord of the Rings Forum

Did you know that in the movie, the actor that plays Gimli is 6 feet something. For more information, check this out:

I just found out some shocking things.

Yep, all the Hobbits and Dwarves were cast using actors hired for their look and talent (or supposed talent in some cases). None of them were hired for being the correct height. The height differences you see on screen are done using camera trickery and computer effects.  :)

Redwaller

I know that. But I meant that the actor that plays Gimli mostly didn't play in the movies.

I love watching movies with John Rhys-Davies.  That is a man who truly loves acting.  He's been in everything from Lord of the Rings to low budget horror movies like Unnameable 2.

I have all three LOTR books and hgave read them so many times I've basically memorized them... lol
I hate it when a package says 'easy open' and you need a scissors, a knife, a crowbar, a gun, and a light-saber to open it.

The Lord  of the rings is my all time favorite book now :)

To me he'll always be the Professor in Sliders

As far as fantasy (not pulp or high etc) goes, Redwall and Lord of the Rings are my most favorite.

Never trust a smiling pirate.  :D

I can do that because I'm awesome.

Cool. I own a hardback editon of the three Lord of the Rings books in one, and I have both the regular and extended DVDs of the films. I own the extended blu ray set  :) I like the extended cuts much better, as they give you a deeper look into the story and the stories of each individual character.

Yes, the extended cuts were better!  I wish that is how they were in the theater.  I love a long movie, don't know why so many people do not.  Anyway, the extended scenes added a few nice things from the books and made the movie feel whole.

My Tolkien Collection consists of a box set with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and Silmarillion. I'm going to check if I can get some more for cheap. One I really want to read is Children of Húrin.

Tam and Martin

We own the Dvd's and books of all three of the Lord of the Rings and we have the Hobbit, movie and book.

If you wanna chat, PM me :) I'd love to talk with any of you!

The extended films are great to watch - yay, more LOTR! I'm so used to those versions I don't even know all of what was and wasn't in the theatrical cut anymore. I can see why they wouldn't include too much more footage for cinema release as it's a long time as it is to sit down for, and it's a pain to have to get up for the toilet and miss some of it!

I've read TLOTR, The Hobbit and The Silmarillion. I found the latter quite hard-going in places, though!
