What sorts of made-up or mythical creatures do you think are cool?

Personally, my favorite would be Barghests.  These are part of legends in parts of England, namely Yorkshire.  It is supposedly a spectral being that appears in the form of a huge black dog and preys on travelers on dark nights and near graveyards.

A Barghest^

I also like more traditional werewolf myths.  I picture werewolves to look just like large, ferocious, supernaturally strong wolves, not like part wolf-part man hybrids.

^Like these guys

I always liked Cerberus as well, as well as Fenrir, Hugin and Munin, of Norse myths.

Dragons, Griffins, Phoenixes, Cyrophoenixes , the lot.... Pretty much all the really cool flying ones.  :D

I've never been a huge dragon fan but phoenixes are so cool.  I think they'd be so majestic if they were real.

I think that the flying eagles in the Narnia films are cool. Dragons are okay, they're not my absolute favorite though. My second favorite mythical creature... has to be mermaids, for some reason.

Hmm.... GRIFFONS!!!! Especially the Snow leopard-owl version. Also Unicorns, duh.  And I kinda like Chimeras, along with Pheonixes.

And, the Cupacabra!

I love that werewolf picture you found Rainshadow, that's precisely how I see them.

Yes!  I don't like it when people picture them walking on two hindpaws.  I know, I know, it's how Redwall does it.  But it just doesn't look realistic the way they make werewolves with the whole 'I'm hunchbacked and standing on two paws!'  It just looks weird.

I like the Twilight Saga werewolves, I like the books more than the movies (both lack character development in my opinion, but of course that's another subject entirely) I love them in their wolf form, and not so much in their human form. I thought it was cool to read about the pack's thoughts to each other. It really is a strong point in a weak series.

I would have to agree with everything you said, Redwallfan7. But I picture werewolves, thicker, stockier, and tougher in general. They shouldn't just look like big wolves in my opinion.

Pheonix,Gryphon, dragons and werewolves depending on how they look.

Orinoco

I love Hippogriffs, which are a combination of a horse and an eagle/griffin.

I'm also a believer in the Loch Ness Monster.  ;D

I also like were-creatures, including werewolves, of course.

EDIT: Wow, please avoid posting supersized pictures.  Just give the URL if they are that large next time.

EDIT2: Sorry, Lutra.  I'd used the site it came on to automatically resize it smaller (it was as big as the other pictures on this thread); apparently the resize only lasted so long before reverting back to the original size.  I'll know next time to upload the resized version to Tinypic. ^^

Whoa! Nice pictures!
How are the people on the Forum that those little dragons link to? Sounds like fun!
