Rogue One
So the ending of Rogue One is that everybody dies?

I guess that cuts down on the chances of a sequel.

I really liked the ending. Major character death is underutilized in storytelling, IMO. Particularly how they didn't add a romantic subplot between the dude and the lady. Also, K2 was awesome! He was voiced by Alan Tudyk, who played Wash in Firefly.

It was a bold move, but I was totally shocked and upset as soon as I knew there was no way they could get out of there (although I kept hoping for a ship to magically swoop down at the last second and save them).  I could barely bring myself to clap at the end.

It is pretty cool that there was no dramatic kiss or anything.  You can interpret their relationship any way you want.  (Although I kinda sorta really ship them.)

Definitely...

Rogue One
Funnily enough, if K-2SO had actually said the odds, they would also end in the whole team dying. Attempting an attack on a heavily defended Imperial base guarded by a massive amount of troops and vehicles is suicide. Even though they had the Rebel fleet, the KNEW there was a planetary shield there. The fleet was unable to provide any support beyond those fighters and few troops. Furthermore, the amount of variables that could go wrong is staggering. Attempting to climb up the databank storage shaft? Ridiculous. Jyn was lucky TIE bombers were never deployed, otherwise she'd've been blown up along with the conmmunications tower. She's also lucky that there apparently wasn't any remote controls in the command center for the dish, otherwise she couldn't have transmitted the plans. You know what would've been better from the beginning? Armoring two Rebels up in the killed stormtroopers from the landing pad. Speaking of that scene and things to go wrong, it's a wonder the other imperial didn't notice the change in the faces of the officer when Andor emerged. And why did they bring an enforcer droid from the transport? Cargo transports wouldn't normally carry military equipment. (a weak point, I know). Anyway, back to what I was saying about a better plan. Bring more soldiers with you! They would've defended the security station better, and the extra firepower is useful.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is: They got as far as they did on pure luck.

So. . . you would censor something because it irks you personally?
That's exactly right.

@James Gryphon I will always and forever find this an issue.

Just sayin'.

That's a bit hypocritical isn't it?

No, it isn't. If Corn had said she finds that an issue and is thus considering using her mod powers to stop him, you'd have a pretty good argument for her being a hypocrite. However, without suggested abuse of power, stating her opinion is far from hypocritical.

Flor advocated for the end of political discussion, even asking James to ban it entirely because she didn't like it. The same thing James is considering about the term 'SJW', except this time according to Flor that's no good.

But I won't push the issue, I just think this whole discussion is hilarious.

Ah, that's fair. (Context I didn't have.) "Ban the things I don't like but not the things you don't like" is a rather hypocritical stance. Granted, I don't know that Corn took that stance- I'm still missing a lot of context, I should give her the benefit of the doubt. (She could have easily been arguing that it's harmful to the community as a whole, or that it's counter to the forum's goals... but that's neither here nor there.)

Regardless, banning things just because someone (especially the one doing the banning) doesn't like them strikes me as unethical. I mean, it's within James' rights, but that doesn't make it right.

For the record, I don't recall whether Pny ever explicitly asked me (or other staff members) to ban political discussion.

Anyway, I think this discussion on this topic has run its course (kinda like the term "SJW" ;) ). To clear this thing up, I never said that I was for sure going to censor it, I only said I was "tempted" to (which was true, for various reasons). I doubled down on my claim afterwards because I'm always irritated when people take me completely at my word and start talking about administrative ethics. I'd hoped that y'all would trust me more than that.

In other news: The miniature poodle we have visiting for the holidays (someone asked us to take care of her while they were out of town) will be going back home soon. It's a good thing overall; she's sweet, but she's very clingy, and she doesn't get along with my cat at all.

I haven't ever, to my knowledge. I HAVE asked it to stop. And asked James to stop it.

I have not taken that stance.
