What changed so suddenly?

I don't know this Del guy- I guess he was on here before my time, but I've seen it happen on a few different forums where an active or even really active member just disappears all of a sudden disappears/stops posting. Its strange that they used to have time to be a prolific poster on some site and then suddenly they have zero time for it, from full speed to 0 kinda deal.

Yeah, Del's a big part of the forum.  And everyone used to ship me with him.

On a completely random note, I made the mistake of seeing The Little Mermaid for the first time a few weeks ago and hated it.  Ariel is the absolute worst role model, and the plot was pretty weird.  I'm glad I never saw it as a kid - I don't think any impressionable young kid should see it, because, like I said, Ariel's a terrible role model.

Beauty and the Beast is still the best Disney princess movie.

Maudie

I haven't seen The Little Mermaid since I was just a wee beastie. I'm a Mulan girl, myself.

Eulaliaaa!

I used to love The Little Mermaid. But I think Mulan is best.
Just pretend there is something interesting and unique written here... I have nothing to say.

I've never actually seen Mulan, sadly.  I want to rectify the situation.

I liked the first Mulan, but I hated the sequel.

The plot is your standard mermaid plot. I don't see anything weird about it. Care to explain how Ariel is a terrible role model? She, like allll the other Disney princesses, is pretty much a Sue and falls in love with some guy on first sight and makes the choice any typical girl her age would. My three-year-old niece loves "Awiel" and I see no problem with it. Also, not everyone sees someone and likes them and goes "MY NEW ROLE MODEL" I don't. I don't really have a role model, and don't remember the last time I had one, because I don't want to act like someone else. I want to act like me. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Well, in the real story, Ariel loses Eric to Ursula and jumps off of a cliff and turns into sea foam. Moral of the story: parents usually know better, don't do stupid things for  love like selling your voice, and don't mess with evil sea witches. But, it's a Disney movie. Parents aren't allowed to be correct, and stupidity is OK if it's for "true love".

@Peony:  Ariel's way flightier than other Disney princesses, and she makes a completely stupid deal with the devil for some guy she saw once.  And their whole relationship is based on physical attraction.  (Yes, so are the relationships of several other Disney princesses, but this takes it to a whole new level.)

I also read the original Hans Christian Anderson story quite some time ago, and although it had a weird ending that was kinda bittersweet, at least it had some depth to it.  I don't recall Ursula being in the story at all, though.  And I'm not sure the mermaid actually turned into sea foam?  It was hinted that if she did good deeds for the next few hundred years, she could earn herself a soul, or something weird like that.  Anyway.
