True, but other timelords in the series have regenerated as the opposite gender of what they were. People have been hoping for a female doctor with these past few regenerations. I'm still not sure how I would feel about the whole thing, but I think if it were to happen it would be awesome if Hayley Atwell were to get the part.

I also think it's inevitable that eventually the Doctor will be female...

I guess she would make a good Doctor, but I think the whole thing would make me uncomfortable if I watched the show. :P

Why do they need to try to be so politically correct? ::) Honestly, I think it would break the way the Doctor would be held in the minds of others, as well as lose favor of fans because it has always been a male.

From what I've read, the whole show is very LGBT-friendly already, so I dunno if the Doctor switching sexes would even be badly-received.

In the MARVEL comics, the Ancient One is an old Tibetan man, yet Tilda Swinton is a relatively young white female. Does that not break the character of the Ancient One in the minds of others?

Similarly, would the Doctor regenerating into black man break people's view of him as the Doctor has always been white?

It didn't break people's view when the Doctor who had always been English came back with a Scottish accent. It didn't break peoples' view of the Master when they regenerated into a woman. Why should the Doctor be treated differently?

Yeah, you could say that. Unsurprising seeing as the man who brought back the show in 2005, Russell T. Davies is gay himself.

The Marvel comics are set in an entirely different universe than the MCU, so I don't think that argument is the best.  And sex is a more fundamental thing than one's skin color.

Yeah, I read that too.

I guess I'm not allowed to have an opinion.

That's a horrific response. If that change would be bad, why are those ones not? If you can't provide an answer then your opinion has no basis and is thus illogical.

"I guess I'm not allowed to have an opinion" is a petulant response used when people can't come up with something better. Those questions were not in any way rude and there was absolutely no reason to get defensive.

Well, most people would agree that race merely affects outward appearance. A black man can think exactly the same as a white man. But genders are viewed differently. Men and women are viewed as separate and distinct. Gender does affect how you think and feel. A woman and a man in the same experience might view that experience very differently.

^ Yeah, one's sex is a defining thing about them.  Skin color is superficial.

All of the Doctors think and act differently to each other, it's what makes him such a unique and interesting character. Hartnell was strict and serious, Troughton was angry and sometimes silly, Pertwee was a scientist through and through, T. Baker was emotional and funny, Davison was emotional and didn't use advanced technology, C. Baker was acerbic and arrogant, McCoy was a shrewd chessmaster and expert manipulator, etc. etc.

Personally, I'm not one of the people who is lobbying for a female Doctor. I mean, if a woman is the best person for the job, then go for it, but I don't really care what gender the next Doctor is, so long as they're good.

ALSO CAN WE PLEASE HAVE A COMPANION WHO ISN'T A YOUNG WOMAN FROM 21ST CENTURY LONDON? THEY HAVE LITERALLY ALL OF TIME AND SPACE TO CHOOSE FROM, MAKE THE COMPANION AN ALIEN, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK??

From what I read, you seemed to ask those questions rhetorically, so I did not see it necessary to answer them with my opinion on them.

DOCTOR: How is that news to anyone?

-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.
