Lady Ashenwyte

There was a time a barbarian,grim-faced and scarred,
Crossed the path of this traveling bard,
In clenched fist he held a dismembered head,
When he came closer, I saw it was quite dead.

"Hold, good sir," I cried, " I'm not quite certain
Why you would be carrying this most grisly of burdens."
He merely grunted, "You'd think the answer would be plain.
This man right here, one of my mighty kin he had slain."

" Oh my!" I exclaimed, " Would you please bother
to tell me who he killed, perhaps it was your father?"
The large man snorted, " Nay, good skald, it was not my sire,
he had already found his glory in a blaze of dragon's fire."

"But if it wasn't your father, good Axe Lord,
then was it your brother that was put to the sword?"
The big man chuckled," Though you may be wrong, your question is fair,
but my sibling died trying to grapple with a cave bear."

"But surely," I said, " it must then be your uncle,
in a fight over a gem, perhaps a carbuncle?"
The big man shook his head, " Nay, his ending was more drab,
but it taught me what happens when you don't pay your bar tab."

He continued on, "The one who died was our foes' terror,
the only one of us worthy of being our clan's Axe Bearer.
With fierce visage and steely thews, boldly going through life
Gained glory and plunder through battle and strife.

And so I now carry this one's head, though he be a foreigner,
But on that day he proved himself to be a true warrior.
So I honour him now by returning him to his land."
Then he turned away from me, burden in hand.

"But wait!" I cried, " you still did not mention
what the answer was to my original question!
Who was your mighty kin, if not father, uncle or brother?"
The barbarian merely turned his head and said, " 'Twas my grandmother."

@Groddil  Okay, I was kidding. XD  I understand the words he said, but I agree the meaning made no sense.

I shall do my best to provide translations (in italics).

Are you usually the Headspeak translator? O.o

Since I'm posting here anyway, I may as well answer that: Yes she is.

Do you guys have any favourite authors who wrote a series that you love and you know they've written other books but you look at those books and are like "nah?"

I agree.  Søren doesn't like books/shows with overt supernatural elements, though, because of his beliefs.

I can't really think of an author whose other books I'm not gonna read anytime soon... unless Shannon Hale and her two adult books count?  Austenland does have an interesting premise, though, so I might read it eventually.

Shannon Hale's adult books are pretty good. The Actor and the Housewife sounded pretty sketchy to me at first, but I decided that I trusted Shannon Hale and read it. I can say that it is not adulterous, but it does have a relatively in-depth look at platonic male-female relationships...

(But whatever you do, don't read Dangerous. I'm not even sure Shannon Hale wrote it. :P :D)

Interesting answers.

Mine are Castaways, Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver books and Sarah J. Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

I loved the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld, but I haven't like any of his other books I've read.
