Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Horus? Seriously?

And Gerard Butler as Set?

I must say that the movie gets one thing right; the gouging of Horus' eyes does happen in the mythology.

Sorry for the double post.

Izzy (to Alec): They're going to make you marry.

*Eye. Quite a bit of NSFW bits in the mythology, it has to be said.

The Players in this performance:

FA: Friend A
FB: Friend B
Ash: You know who I am.

FA: "Women are better than men"
Ash: "That's sexist."
FB: "People like you are why I became a feminist.
Ash: (Insert a comeback here)

I was laughing inside of me. The amazing double standard strikes again.  :D

I would like to examine the cognitive dissonance of Valentine Morgenstern, because it's insane.

For those who don't know, Valentine is essentially a magical Hitler. His only goal is to kill all the Downworlders; a collection of species which has some kind of demonic heritage, be it the half-human, half-demon warlocks, the diseased werewolves and vampires, or the supposedly half-demon, half-angel faeries. It is against the law for him to do this, because they're just people, so he starts a death cult.

His death cult was previously a political opponent to the Clave, the governing body of the Shadow world. Their rule is ineffectual and corrupt, and Valentine wanted to overthrow them. However, when Valentine's father was killed by werewolves, he decided that all Downworlders are evil monsters and have to be killed; this is in direct opposition of his original beliefs.

Valentine was defeated and went into hiding, but he came back with a new plan: to summon the Angel Raziel, progenitor of the Shadowhunters, and ask him to kill all Downworlders (and all Shadowhunters that did not follow Valentine, of course). Valentine worships God with a feverish passion and believes wiping out Downworlders is what God would want. So Valentine summons the Angel and the Angel says no.

A messenger of Valentine's God tells him that his beliefs are wrong and that he is insane. Valentine, instead of apologising or repenting of his actions, tells the Angel "well I would rather you do it willingly, but I'll compel you if I have to." What level of cognitive dissonance could possibly drive you to stick to your beliefs even after a being which you consider holy and sacred has dismissed your beliefs as stupid and called you an immoral monster? How is Valentine so convinced of his beliefs that he ignores his own God? It's really quite baffling.

The Skarzs

Quite a serious antagonist. Like you've said before, the author seems to have a way of making you really hate her villains. :P

Perhaps his belief in the will of god is an excuse he's told himself because he believes in his own cause so much and yet has to justify it to himself.  But that was only at first, and by now he's hardened himself and just ignores anything that goes against his beliefs.
"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater." ~J.R.R. Tolkien

Ugh. Thanks for turning one of my favourite characters in fiction into a coward, Ed Dector. Alec would NEVER marry someone he didn't love. NEVER. Not because it would advantageous. Not to please his parents. He would never do it. You were pretty much spot on with Alec's characterisation up until this point, he was my second favourite performance in the entire cast. Except with the thing in episode four when he broke the bonds, that was also pretty cowardly and not like Alec at all. Now every character except Magnus and Simon has been changed to their detriment. And what's really disappointing was that the rest of the episode was awesome and the quality of the show has been getting better since episode five, with some exceptions. I don't understand why he thought the fans of the books would enjoy it, which he was pretty confident about at the ComicCon panel.

Ugh.
