Guess who's making another post to this thread analysing Homestuck.

If you guessed anyone other than me, then I question your brainpower.

Specifically, I'll be analysing Homestuck's villains.

Homestuck has a lot of villains. Jack Noir, the omnicidal maniac, Her Imperious Condescension, the alien empress, Doc Scratch, the smug omniscient manipulator and all-around creep, Gamzee Makara, the insane clown, Snowman, the suave, elegant sociopath. A lot of villains.

Then of course we have Lord English. Lord English is Homestuck's biggest bad. He is a time-travelling twenty-foot tall green-skinned demon with a peg-leg and a golden tooth. He is known to have destroyed entire universes and is called the Angel of Double-Death due to his tendency to massacre the ghosts of the Furthest Ring. He runs an organised crime ring, and commands the loyalty of Doc Scratch and Snowman, two of the other villains. He is described as more powerful and dangerous than Doc Scratch, an already omnipotent being. He is also a literal manchild. As in, he has the mind of a child and the body of an adult.

Throughout Homestuck we learn of Lord English's story and of how he had his literal better half assassinated so that he could dominate in their shared body, stunting his mental growth permanently. And I think that really says something about Andrew Hussie himself.

I will not lie, Andrew Hussie may be a genius, but he hasn't always been the greatest person. He used to be incredibly immature, and downright offensive to just about everyone. He was constantly using ableist slurs to mean stupid and made jokes at the expense of others. But as people do, over the course of his life, he changed from that into a legitimately great guy. And I think it's really telling that his main villain isn't someone who kills because they just want to, or so they can rule as dictator, or someone who knows literally everything. His main villain is an emotionally stunted, unfeeling child.

His idea of ultimate evil isn't supreme power or ruthlessness or intelligence or insanity; it is someone with the inability to grow. Because I think that's what scares him most. Because, in all honesty, he was a lot like that main villain. He is ashamed of his past mistakes and regrets them deeply and he is truly grateful for how he has changed. And because of that, he made his main villain someone who was incapable of that kind of change. He values personal growth above pretty much anything so his main villain will never grow.

Jack Noir is capable of love and friendship, Doc Scratch can find things cute (even if what he finds cute is pretty creepy) and crack jokes, HIC wants to resurrect her extinct race. But Lord English can't be anything but a horrible child throwing a tantrum for all eternity.
