Anyone heard of VidAngel?  It's some streaming service that'll let you rent a movie for $1 and customize filters for objectionable content exactly how you want to.  We haven't tried it yet, but it looks cool and I wanna see The Maze Runner, so... yeah.  Anyone tried it?

We have, I was just gonna suggest it to you. Look up the VidAngel Star Wars commercial, the one with Jar Jar.

Actually you buy the movie from them for $20, then you can add their premade filters on to it, and you can sell it back to them within 24 hours for $19, but if you don't sell it back in time it's yours. Apparently since you own the movie you can do whatever you want to it.

I wouldn't think the concept is any more "illegal" than any other online streaming service. The trouble with the lawsuit has to do with their licensing agreements (or lack thereof), not because there's something inherently wrong with filtering content. And if the audience owns something, like a book or a film, I don't see what business it is of anyone's whether they choose to skip certain scenes or write with marker over the content they don't like.

As far as the "creator's vision" goes... I suppose you would disagree with this statement as well, but from my (and others') point of view, explicit scenes and profanity-laced tirades are by no means an "essential" part of the creator's vision. "Plot" and "character development" have more to them than how much skin is shown or how many four-letter-words the scriptwriter can string into one sentence. I know you think that those things don't matter, that the distinction we have between "reverent" or "irreverent" is silly and meaningless, and profanity and all of that is no big deal. If it's not a big deal to have it, though, I don't see why anyone should be upset when someone chooses not to.

@Lord Daskar: Good job confusing people. I forgot myself that I was using a new avatar, and wondered if I was just about to double-post. ;)
