Ships and Skies

I have a small story idea that's still forming, it follows Fiskcar, Imber Levis, Skye, Fee the eagle, and Lyl the otter when one of the nearby nations called Igon starts attacking smaller nations, planning to become the dominant nation. When the story starts Igon has allready captured one of the nations, Fernsground.

Fiskcar is from Igon who is torn between doing what he knows is right, or loyalty to his homeland. Imber is a survivor from Fernsground. Lyl was an airship captain for Dagall. The main character, Skye is from Onmes, the nation of thieves. Fee is Skye's buddy. Larger animals like otters, hawks, and badgers are a large part of society. Smaller animals are still intelligent, but don't live in cities built for humans. The best part is the setting, which is a bunch of floating islands, with some sort of magnetic rock or the like holding them up. The people get around by airships, melding a nice steampunk twist into it, while still leaving room for pirates and the like. The genre will likely be adventurous with a little bit of humor.

Tell me what you think, and if you can think of a title, please tell me.

The sort of airship used is this, only plainer and more humble (and not made out of legos )



The nations are:

Igon - The most war-like nation, has the largest military.
Onmes - The home of thieves and pirates, crime runs high here.
Dagall - The most centrally located nation, relies on trade for it's living, it sits on one of the only sources of metal.
Fernsground - The most peaceful nation, there is little to attack for, except for the large farms.
The Unseen - A nation of spies and mercenaries, the people will sell their blade to the highest bidder.

I walked through the streets of Onmes' capitol in broad daylight. Since there is so much crime here, it's actually easier to steal during the day. No one cares anyway, as long as it isn't them. There was a large assortment of people here, and creatures. Sometimes a badger would run by, being chased by a person for stealing something. Other times it was a cat, or ferret. A messenger hurried past. Messenger's were the only people who didn't get mugged here, they played a vital role. They brought letters from other cities to the president and vice versa. If one was here, there would be some news within the hour.

Fee was my friend, one of the few creatures who didn't try to steal from me. He was also an eagle, which helped for some of the tougher heists.

Fee screeched the get-go. It was so loud in this city no one attached any significance to it. Except me. I ducked into an alley without observation and took a rope from around my waist. It had several large knots in it, a climbing rope. I fashioned it into a loop and cast it up, trying to get it snagged on a protruding brick. I was lucky, a knot got caught and it stayed, though likely not for long. It wasn't the best, the brick was wobbly but I was desperate, I had no food, and no money to buy food. I grabbed the two sides and started climbing, bracing my feet against the wall. The rope slipped. I panicked and started climbing faster. Suddenly, the rope went slack and I was falling.

Fee saw the brick dislodge from the wall, and knew that Skye was in that alley. He swooped from his perch on top of a store to Skye's side. Luckily, the brick hadn't hit her, though she had hit her head. At least it wasn't paved, though it had to hurt. No one ever bothered to pave the streets, there was no money for that. Fee nudged Skye's arm with his beak. She flopped her arm pointlessly.

I woke up with a splitting headache. The first thing I saw was a dark shiny eye, "Fee! Don't do that!"
He chuckled, "Do what?" His beak clicked with every word, some humans have trouble understanding birds.
I spluttered, not knowing what to say, so I changed the subject, "Did you see that messenger?"
Fee nodded, "Shall we see what the president has to say?"
I nodded, whenever a message comes, Regina, our president recites a summary of what it says in front of her mansion for people without tvs to come and listen.

There was a large crowd by the time Fee and I arrived. Regina was standing on a stand clutching a bronze voice amplifier. She cleared her throat and said, "Fernsground has fallen. Igon has declared war. On all nations."
What? Fernsground? Fernsground was the most peaceful of the nations. What would Igon gain by taking that place? But there was no denying that Igon had the numbers and experience to rage war on the nations. Fee looked at me in horror.
