How do we knoe exactly that Leatho was that old? It really dosn't say anything about him being old in High Rhulain.

I really should reread High Rhulain, but at the moment, I'm not really sure.

Someone previously had said that Leatho was a sea otter and Tiria was a river otter, therefore they couldn't marry. But I'm wondering: in the real world, can sea otters and river otters mate?

I didn't say they couldn't, I said that someone else had said that they couldn't. (And I was wondering if that's the case in the real world.) See the quote below:

Well, that disn't mean that its true; there dosn't seem to be any huge differents between Sea Otters and River Otters, exept that they live in different places.

I think that would make a beautiful Romeo and Juliet type fic. In the Redwall universe, Tiria was descended from sea otters, so it's clear they can interbreed. As for in the real world, I actually don't know. I don't know if it'd be like matching up a rabbit with a hare (impossible) or an Irish hare with an Antelope Jackrabbit (possible.) I don't suppose anybody wants to run that question by their science teacher?

@Osu: Well, you also have to keep in mind that the Redwall universe probably doesn't rely on science. There are allot of stuff in Redwall the science says is imposable, but is completely real in imagination. Though, I'm sure that BJ would have at least some scientifically true points to the Redwall series.
