I was just rereading Mossflower and the part when Mask dies is truly epic. Not only did he protect the hedgehogs and Gingivere, he had to infiltrate Kotir and fool Tsarmina. He was one of the bravest characters

All those deaths are so heroic.  I found Mellus's death especially shocking.

I was reading that during church, and it was like someone punched me in the stomach. It almost literally winded me.   
I remember reading the rest of the book, and feeling despondent.
