These do look good so far! They have been fun to read. I'm working on mine and my answers should be up soon...

DanielofRedwall

I'll answer some of the ones I have instant answers for now, and then gradually work my way through the others. I may later do this for other characters as well.
Character: Oaka (see The Recruiting Sergeants). Species: Shrew. Age: 19 (years/seasons). Italics are his replies.
1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?
Born, bred and raised just where I am now, and proud of it! My parents, Grandparents and I (no siblings) all lived in a small cottage by the river and deep in Mossflower woods, just out of Barrow. I live there now as well, albeit alone.
What were their parents/guardians like?
Ah, they were perfect... They loved me and I loved them. They never forced me to do any work, but I did work anyway partly because I enjoyed it and partly as it was a way to show them my adoration. Unfortunately, they often went on trips all around Mossflower country. They even ventured as far as the edge of Southsward once. On these trips I stayed with my grandparents, who I also loved. They brought me back gifts all the time, and I always wear one of them (a seashell necklace) around me neck. One day, my parents set out and never returned... And my grandparents died... So now I live alone.
3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?I got along fine, and would still if they were still around...
4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now? I do the same as I did back then: cooking, gardening, cleaning, fishing, exploring (only the closely surrounding parts!)... The only thing different now is the fact that I can't listen to my parent's and grandparent's stories.
5. What has been the most important relationship in their life? That between myself and my parents.
6. How do they feel about love?
7. How do they feel about friendship? I've never really had a friend my own age before, so I can't really answer. I'm sure it is important, but I haven't really experienced it (apart from my guardians).
8. Have they ever been in love? With who? What happened? Not in the romantic sense, but in love with my parents and grandparents, yes. My parents disappeared and my grandparents died.
9. How do they feel about themself? I'm happy with myself and my life. I am quite shy, but I don't mind.
10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?
To live a happy, peaceful and solitary life as I am now.
11. What is their worst fear?
12. If they had one wish, what would it be?
13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?
14. Where would their ideal place to live be?
Where I am now! In a nice, secluded cottage deep in the woods by the river, where there is always enough gardening, fishing and cooking to do!
15. How would (or do) they feel about living at Redwall?
I'm not sure about this... There are too many beasts for my liking, but yet they all seem to value the simpler things in life like me. I'm sure I could learn to enjoy myself once they entice me out of my shell.
16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life? Killing? NO! I hope I never have to. It would just scar me and haunt me forever...
17. How do they feel about the idea that all vermin are evil and all woodlanders are good? How about more specific species stereotypes? Ehh, dunno. I don't really meet any of either type where I live, so I can't really form an opinion.
Received mostly negative reviews.

Well, there's a lot to this, but now I know this character pretty well:

This is my character on this site, Brookskimmer

1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?
It was late Spring on the river Moss. The sun played on the surface of the greeny gold hued water. Diving dragonflies occasionally touched the water causing flowing circular ripples to be carried off downstream. Otters played in the hallows, cavorting. Laughing, wrestling, and generally enjoying themselves in the fine springtime weather. Two otter stayed on the dry sands of the riverbank. One was pacing while the other spoke calmly.
"Cool yer rudder matie. Pacing like this isn't goin' the make yer missus feel any better."
"Easy fer you to say Jimmer. Yer missus has had kits a'fore. This will be Willow's first."
"Aye, and she'll be fine. My Barlow ain't never failed to 'elp new mothers bring forth kits fit as a fiddle."
The pacing otter took a deep breath and sighed while sitting down. "Aye, yer right matie. No reason for me to get all worked up. Maybe we should try a spot o' fishin' downri-"
"Reed!" "Reed Riverpaw!"
The otter jumped up and barked out. "I'm right here! What's wrong? Is she alright? Where's Willow?"
The good otterwife Barlow stomped her paw for silence. "Listen 'er Reed me laddo!"
Reed clamed down and nodded. "Sorry marm, go ahead."
"That's better. Now if'n yer quiet you can come in and see miss Willow, and yer new kit. A little female."
Reed clapped Jimmer on the back sharply. "You 'er that Jimmer me ol' streamdog? A liddle baby otter kit all of me own. I'm a father!"
Jimmer rubbed his back and grinned ruefully.
"Aye, that ye are Reed. Let's go in and see her!"

2. What were their parents/guardians like?
Willow (Tidesong) Riverpaw
Willow sat down, a smile playing lightly on her muzzle, as her youngsters played. The fabric in her paws moved quietly back and forth as she worked. She shook her head as a small male otter tackled one a few seasons older, both of them going under with a splash. It seemed like only yesterday she and Reed had be blessed by Brookskimmer. Now she and her two brothers, Rush, and Bevvel were beginning to look like proper otters. Brookskimmer, being the oldest and the only female kit had received quite a bit of attention from her mother over the years. Willow loved Brook dearly and hoped the sleek female would have a life free from turmoil and troubles. However, this was something that could not be promised. Where there was good, evil was never far off. Brook had reached the age where Willow was sure Reed had begun training her in the art of combat. All otter folk from Holt Widestream knew how to defend themselves. Reed tried to hide this training from Willow, assuring his wife that their young ones would grow up safe. However, Reed and Willow knew learning to protect oneself was a priceless gift passed on from parents to young ones. Willow sighed and continued to rub at the object wrapped in a cloth in her paws. Eventually she looked out over the river and spotted her daughter sitting on a half submerged log mid-river.
"Brookskimmer! Come here a moment would you?"
She watched as Brook dove into the water and swam towards her mother on the shore. Willow stood and removed the object from the cloth. She slid the long dagger into its hard leather sheath. It had been Willow's dagger, given to her by her father. It would now pass to willing new paws. A daughter of the Riverpaws.
Reed Riverpaw
"Again!" The burly male otter barked as he gulped in a breath of air. He held a stave confidently in front of his body in ready position. He could feel perspiration beginning to break out on his forehead. His opponent had become worthy over the past half season.
The other otter barked loudly and came at the foe. A long dagger, wrapped in bark cloth, struck fast and hard aimed at the ribs.
"Have at ye vermin scum!" A thin smile played on the male otter's muzzle as he countered the blow, sending stinging reverberations up through his opponent's paws. "You'll have to do better than that! Disarm me! Come on! You've got more than this to ye!"
The attacks came in again, swift and calculated. A swing at eye level with the dagger, followed by a tail sweep and a counter thrust at gut level. The male otter was hard pressed to defend this time. He blinked as the weapon narrowly missed his face, hopped nimbly over the rudder aimed at his ankles, and then lost his breath as the blunted dagger point connected with his gut. Winded, he dropped back a pace and held out his stave in defense.
WHOCK! The handle end of the dagger knocked into the stave at its center, sending the weapon to the ground. Before he could blink the male otter found himself in a head lock ,a blunted dagger edge tickling his throat.
"Say mercy vermin." The words flowed flat and merciless from the other otter's lips.
"Mercy!" The male otter tried to twist around. He got his paw behind himself and tickled the otter holding him in the ribs.
"Hee hee! Hey! Vermin don't tickle!"
He tickled harder causing the otter to release him.
"That's not fair dad!"
"All's fair when fighting vermin my sweet daughter!" He bounded forward and began to tickle her again.
"You can't just tickle me! I'm a grown up now! Stop it." She burst into a fit of giggling.
When the game was finished Reed stood up and dusted himself down. He nodded to his daughter as she unbound the casing from her blade and thrust it into the sheath hanging from her belt.
"You're ready Brookskimmer me gel. A true fighter of the Riverpaws. I'm proud of you."
She smiled broadly at her father. "Thank you father. I owe it all to you and your training. You play a good vermin."
Reed chased his daughter playfully towards the river shouting. "Call me a vermin will ye? That's it! I'll get ye for that!"

3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?
An extract from the journal of Brookskimmer Riverpaw
"It has been two seasons since I've been back to good old Holt Widestream. Life here at Holt Reedbind has been quite nice. It seems ages since I've been home, probably because I miss the place dearly. However, my new friends here at Reedbind have made me quite welcome. Especially Garrow, he's the reason I came here after all. Such a nice otter he's been. I remember when I first met him when he was on one of his inland scouting trips and came across our holt. But that's another story for another time.
I hope mother and father are getting along without me. I used to help mother with all the cooking. Seasons know how much my father and brothers can put away food wise, not counting the rest of the otters in our holt. I hope she's been able to keep hot food in front of that lot and still have time to relax and sip tea. We used to sip tea together, mother and I, in those cool misty morning on the shoreline of the river Moss. Those were good days that I hope to return to.
I'm sure father is busy training my brothers in the arts of battle and food. How to wield the stave, dagger, and fishing nets, are all special tricks of the trade for us Riverpaws. I remember when father taught me to fight. He said he would bet his next ten seasons of shrimp and hot root soup that I would be a better fighter than Rusher or Bevvel. I wonder if his wager was correct. I'll find out when we travel back home next season. Good old father. He'll have us all trained to protect the holt when he's reached seasons too long for fighting."

4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now?

"Twelve skips! You made that last stone skip twelve time!"
The young otter stepped back and wiped his paws free from river sand.
"Bet'cha can't skip it more than that Brook!"
"Bet you I can Bevvel! In fact, let's do. Mother's making chestnut and cream turnovers tonight. If I can skip a stone more than twelve times you owe me your turnover."
"And if you don't?"
"If I don't I'll give you mine. Ok?" The otter smiled winningly at her youngest brother and stooped to pick up a circular flat stone.
"Are ye sure ye want to do this Brook? Your mother makes the best turnovers."
Brook nodded to her best friend, a smile playing on her muzzle. "Aye Yew. The worst that can happen is," She leaned in and whispered into her friend's ear. "We'll have to sneak into the kitchen and swipe a couple turnovers later tonight." They both giggled as Brook turned to face the stream.
"Come on! Throw it!"
"Quiet Rusher! I can't throw right with you rushing me!" She broke out into a grin again at the comment and slung the stone out across the river.
____
Seasons later two otters stood on a bank overlooking the bay where fresh water from the river Moss met the sea. The sun was rising, casting golden hues widespread over the watery scene. The male otter reached out, taking the female's paw in his. They looked into each other's eyes for a moment and then turned back to the sea. The female reached into her pocket, took out a circular flat stone, and spoke to the male.
"Garrow, do you think I can make this skip more than twelve times?"
They both chuckled as she cast it towards the water.

5. What has been the most important relationship in their life?
Extracts from Brookskimmer's journal
"He didn't look like any of the otters from around here. My fur is light brown, almost a tan sort of shade. When I go swimming it stays tan, it just goes a shade darker as water soaks through the first layer. This fellow's fur looked almost black! When I first saw him I was swimming underwater from my favorite oak log that sits half submerged in the river. He almost made me choke! I thought he was a huge pike at first, with his dark color and the glittering bands around his wrists and ankles, not to mention the large fish scale he wore about his neck on a silver cord.
He saw the bubbles burst from my mouth and quickly swam towards me. I was towed to the surface and he held me tightly in his arms until I coughed up the water I had swallowed and started to breathe normally. Of course I was embarrassed to be choking and gasping for breath, especially when I got a good look at him. He turned me in his arms so that I was facing towards him. He was tall, strong, and rustic. Along with all this he was extremely handsome. I could feel myself blushing from embarrassment as he questioned me.
"Are ye al'righ' missy?"
He had an odd accent. I was hooked then and there. I knew this strange beast would end up being very important to me.

6. How do they feel about love?
A poem from Brookskimmer's journal:
"Oh deep river and sandy shores
Warm to the touch on paws made for carving water
The call of the kingfisher, wild and free
Cloudless skies and vagrant breeze
My friends from the holt talking and playing
Sharing old words and new stories
My mother baking in the clay oven, shrimp turnovers
Hotroot broth stirred to a turn
My father's walk, proud and strong, stave at his side
Brothers cavort and play, learning the ways of battle
One certain otter, he stands out from the others
These words to me are the sum of love."

7. How do they feel about friendship?
A story from a daughter of Holt Widestream:
My name is Yew, daughter of Holt Widestream. I was born and raised at this holt, along with many others my age. I remember back to the days when I was just a small kit, nothing more than a snip. My mother had taken me out to look for blackberries at twilight. I love twilight, the smells, the sounds, the sun setting over our woodlands and river. Mossflower smells sweet at twilight as the flowers close for the day and the earth breaths a heavy sigh of contentment.
I've always loved to explore and when my mother was stooping to pick berries I found a small tunnel forming at the roots of an old oak tree. I giggled and stuck my head inside. Soon I was shoving my way through until I had my whole body in the hole. Then the sides of the hole widened and before I knew it, I had fallen to the bottom! I called for my mother and when she came and saw where  was she became frantic! She could not reach into the hole to pull me out. Then I smelled something like a nightmare. The sweet smell of death filled my nostrils and I heard a dry rustling sound. I knew without seeing it that there was an adder in the hole with me!
I couldn't move, I couldn't think. I knew I was going to die!  Could almost feel the burning sensation of adder fangs piercing my flesh. It was then that somebeast shot through the hole towards me! It was another young otter, just like me! She grabbed me by the paw and told me not to be afraid. When the adder came forward the otter took a broken piece of root and thwacked it right on the snout, then we were climbing up and out.
Adult otters crowded around the hole as Brookskimmer brought me out. She was the only one in the group small enough to fit through to find me. One otter was coiling up a tough bit of rope she had used for climbing out. They all said they had told her not to go but when she found out it was me down there she grabbed the rope and dove right down. After we were safely out the other otters worked to cover the hole with debris and rocks so the adder could never escape. It would die down there, entombed in its own lair.
Some days after this event I asked Brookskimmer if she had been afraid when she rescued me. She told me she was afraid of the hole, afraid of the dark, and afraid of the snake! But she jumped right in anyway. When I asked her why she said she was most afraid that she would loose me as I was her friend. That is why Brookskimmer is now my best friend and always will be.

8. Have they ever been in love? With who? What happened?
The two otters swam downriver from Holt Widestream. One otter, the male named Garrow, glanced to the female at his side. She sped up and swam around him in a circle, taunting him to chase her. They played back and forth as they made their way downriver towards the sea.
Their heads broke the surface as they laughed.
"I don't think a silly sea otter like you could ever out swim a river otter!"
"Silly sea otta' yerself Brookskimmah! Ye wouldnea last ten minute in the ocean ye rowdy riverdog!"
She splashed him with her front paws and dove under the surface. He dropped his head under the water and glided after her. Two otters were making their way from Holt Widestream to Holt Reedbind. One otter was on her first real trip away from home, the other was returning to show his friends and family the otter he hoped would one day be his mate.
...
The sea was calm in late afternoon as two otters shoved a small boat out into the water. They had packed a picnic supper including all sorts of delicious food. Brookskimmer shoved Garrow playfully as he adjusted their gear in the bottom of the craft.
"Is there any room for us along with all yer fishin' gear and food supplies?"
"Well, there's room fer me... a noisy ship mate'll just scare the fishes away, so they will."
He smiled at the pretty female and tried to keep himself calm. Both otters took to an oar and they plied their vessel out into the bay. Long streamers of seaweed covered the surface of the surging tideline and the glimmer of many small fish bodies could be seen not far below the surface. Brookskimmer nibbled on an oatcake with honey crystals baked into it as Garrow readied a fishing line.
There was a small plop as his bait and sinker hit the water and were carried down into the sea. For a while they sat calmly, enjoying the rock of the boat on the water and the sounds of waves crashing into the shoreline.
"Oh!"
"Do you have a bite Garrow?"
"Aye, that I do! Watch me bring 'im in! Must be a big one!"
Brookskimmer watched as the line was brought in, but there was no fish. Instead there was a small bundle attached just past the sinker of the line. Garrow untied the bundle from the line and passed it to Brookskimmer.
"Well, what do ye know. Interestin' lookin' fish eh?"
The female smiled as she unwrapped the bundle and found a beautiful necklace inside. It had a silver chain on which hung a disk of sparkling blue stone. Brookskimmer turned to Garrow. He had moved closer to her and held her paw in his.
"My dear Brook, would ye do me the 'onor o' bein' my wife?"
He slipped the necklace over her head and pulled her into his embrace as she whispered to him.
"Yes."

9. How do they feel about themselves?
Many long tables were packed with otters for the wedding banquet. The happy couple sat at the head of one of the tables, sharing in the wonderful fare. It was time for friends and family to share their feelings about the new couple.
"My friend Brookskimmer has always been there for me. She's kind, caring, and so much fun to be around. She always makes me smile and can always make me feel better if I'm feeling sad. I'm so thankful for Brook and I'm so glad we have been able to grow up together. I'm also so glad to see she has found herself a wonderful mate in Garrow. I don't know him that well but since they will be spending their seasons partly here at holt Widestream I'm sure we will become good friends."
"My daughter has been such a pleasure since the day she was born. As her father I helped her learn to swim, skip stones, and handle a dagger and stave. I'm so proud of Brookskimmer and so happy to see her find an upstanding otter like Garrow. You've married a daughter of Widestream, Garrow Reedpaw, welcome to our family!"
"I remember holding Brookskimmer as a kit. Such wide eyes, ready to take on the world. She's adventurous and sure of herself. Proud of her heritage and and willing to fight for what she believes in. She's loyal, good hearted, and always there for her friends and family. She also makes a delicious hotroot soup."
Brookskimmer beamed, trying to be humble, as her close friends and family spoke of her. Of course she had her faults, but the words they said were true. She would always try her best to take care of her family and to uphold the traditions suited to a daughter of Holt Widestream.

10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?
"Just think of it Garrow. A merged clan formed from both our holts. We could keep both holts active, one as a summer home and one as a winter refuge."
"But 'oh could we evah 'ope te fit tha' many ottahs in one place me dear?"
"Well, of course we'd have to expand both holts. Reedbind is already much bigger than Widestream. We could do it though."
"Aye, it would be nice." Garrow sighed wistfully and smiled at Brook. "Aye, tis possible."
"It just makes me sad that there are otters in both our holts that don't know each other. I feel like we should all be one big family."
"Perhaps someday Brook. We must give these things time."

11. What is their worst fear?
The hole was too small. There was no way she could fit in. Below she could just make out the form of her friend Yew, cowering against the dirt wall of the adder burrow. She could hear the reptile's rasping breath as it sought to find Yew in the almost totally blackness.
Brook reached out, trying to grip Yew's paw but too late. The adder hissed loudly and struck, burying its twin dagger like fangs deep into Yew's unprotected body. The young otter's anguished scream mingled with Brook's in the tight confines of the burrow. Then the adder turned its never blinking eyes, focusing on the form of an otter lodged in the passage above it.
Brook tried to back out as the snake's head, loaded with sharp teeth launched towards her.
"EEEeeeee!" Brookskimmer's scream woke her from her sleep. She sat up on her rush mat and pushed back her blanket. What a terrible dream!

12. If they had one wish, what would it be?
From Brookskimmer's journal
"If I had one wish it would be that those I love could just go on living forever. Today we put my great grandfather Streamtheif to his final rest. It was sad affair, and even as I write tears are staining this page of my journal. Everybeast that knew old Streamtheif loved him. He was such a source of tradition, mirth, and encouragement to each of us. At least he was able to live out his long seasons peacefully here at the Holt. He had his own little chamber next to mother's kitchens. I used to go there quite often to hear his old tales. He was hear when our holt was very young. Ah, but those times are gone. I will miss my great grandfather. His stories will ive on through myself and the many other otters he spoke with.
In our holt, there is a long standing tradition for saying goodbye to those we love. Their bodies are taken back to the earth by burning them. Not all the otters go to the burning. In fact only our council of elders are a part of that. After the burning is complete we all take small lighted lanterns and send them sailing down the river during the night to symbolize our loved ones path to dark forest.
I will miss my great grandfather. Oh, how I wish those I love didn't have to go."

13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?
An adage from the history of Holt Widestream
A Daughter of Holt Widestream
They need not be a battler, but must not be faint of heart
They need not always speak their mind, but they must have sturdy ideals
They need not dress in beautiful garments, but the beauty of the river must show through them
They need not lay down their life for their family and friends, but they must be willing to do so
They need not have skills in every trade, but they must be specially skilled in one area to help their holt
They need not befriend everybeast, but they must be loyal to those they do call friend
They need not raise a large family, but they must care for those they call family
They need not be prideful, but they must hold Widestream dear
"These are the achievements each young Widestream female should hold dear."

14. Where would their ideal place to live be?
It is almost time for Garrow and the rest of his holt to join us at Holt Widestream for our wedding. The sea otters were so kind in offering either their holt for the wedding or travelling to Holt Widestream. The trip to either holt is already becoming routine for Garrow and myself. We enjoy the trip, swimming up or down river. Stopping at our favorite water meadows along the way. It is a nice time for us to be alone and spend time just the two of us.
Once we are married we will travel between the holts. Part of the year we will live at my family's home the other part at his. I'm excited to be able to travel back and forth for now. Someday I hope Garrow and myself will be able to travel. But, I'll always love coming home to our two holts.

15. How would (or do) they feel about living at Redwall?
Someday Garrow and I hope to travel for a few seasons. Oh yes, someday we will have kits and raise a family of our own but before that time I would like to see more of our world. One of the first trips we would like to take is to the famed Redwall Abbey. It would take us a few weeks to get to the abbey as our Holts are far to the south. I've heard that lots of creatures opt to stay at Redwall after visiting. I don't think Garrow and I could ever stay there permanently. We would miss our homes, friends, and families there too much.

16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life?
"Tell us a story Brookskimmer." The little kits pleaded with the otter maid.
"Oh alright you rascally bunch. Take a seat on those stumps over there." The little ones ran to get seats as Brookskimmer recalled a tale her father had taught her.
"The area around Holt Widestream has been peaceful for seasons. The young ones growing up without fear of attack or invasion. But, when our holt was young, the land had to be protected from vermin in the area. It was in during a particularly cold winter many seasons ago that the last fighting took place around this holt. My father was involved in this battle when he was quite young.
A band of roving vermin, mostly weasels and stoats, came wandering down from the north. My father and some of his otter clan had just finished building the originally gathering place for Holt Widestream. They were celebrating around a pot of hootroot and shrimp soup. The vermin smelled the food and came nearer.
"Get off this land!" My father gave them a stern warning. It was then that he noticed the vermin had a group of about five otter slaves with them. The poor otters were starved and some looked close to death. My father changed his tune and hoped the vermin wouldn't notice.
"Nevermind, you like like brave beasts and we are just honest woodlanders. Please, take our food and don't hurt us."
The weasels and stoats laughed at the cowardly behavior of my father and his clan. They tied up the slaves and began to eat the otter's food. Of course the food was hot and spicy, just they way we like it! Soon they all had tears streaming down their faces from the heat. My father suggested they go down to the river to cool themselves. Soon all the vermin were in the water and my father and his clan attacked! They slew the vermin then and there as they had taken slaves and deserved what they got. After this they freed the slaves and had them join the clan. One of the new otters was named Willow. She was from a high northland holt called Snowfall. My father was completely taken with her and when she was well again they were married."
The otter kits began to ask questions as Brook finished the story.
"So, that's how yer mother and father met eh?"
"Yes, that's the story. He rescued her from the vermin!"
"Would you have fought them like yer father Brooky?"
"Oh, I think I would have given them a right good beating with my stave." She paused and thought about it. " I've never killed anybeast, and I just don't know if I could."
"Well, hopefully you'll never have to know if you could." Squeaked  a small female otter.
Brook swept her up and swung her around playfully. 'Aye, that would be nice wouldn't it. I hope it's always peaceful here."
The otter maid took the younger otters down to the river, knowing in the back of her mind that someday, trouble would find its way to Widestream once more. However, good would always follow. Just as fighting the vermin and freeing the slaves had won her father his wife.

17. How do they feel about the idea that all vermin are evil and all woodlanders are good? How about more specific species stereotypes?
An old song that little kits in Widestream get in trouble for singing. Old otterwives call it: "Such a blood thirsty song, It'd curl yor whiskers and make yer head swim so it would!"
I'd trust a fat stoat as far as I'd throw 'im, which might not be far as he isn't quite trim
I'd stake me life that a rat would kill me, if'n he had half a chance and a knife for the job

I'd rather not turn me back on a fox, I'd rather have him behind a door with ten locks
I'd wager a ferret would stew his own mother, that wager I'd win a betch'a a pie

I'd say that a weasel could weasel his way, to slaying little otters, oh we'd make him pay!
I'd take up me stave and me sling and go after, any old vermin that venture my way!

Something Horrifying

Wow, some more great answers, and Brookskimmer really went above and beyond here! I'm loving the playing with format you did, especially. I was doing something vaguely similar with a certain character, but not to nearly that extent. Very creative, and very detailed.

I'm really busy (and really sick D: ) right now guys, but as I read these I've been coming up with a few specific follow-up questions for some characters. I'll probably write them out and post them in a few days after I get better and the Halloween prep dies down.

(Reading other people's answers is also making me realize how emotionally messed up all my Redwall characters are for some reason? Let's see, I have...
-the ex-searat dealing with depression and self-loathing, and coping with the loss of the rat he was in love with
-the spoiled and manipulative young rat that delights in the emotional and mental torment of others, especially people he LIKES, but doesn't understand why and feels guilty about it
-the emotionally numb cannibalistic ferret soldier with a cult-like religion that follows a supposed giant worm god of death
-the well-educated and well-mannered rat that poses as a searat to rescue a friend, and ends up losing his mind inside a unfathomably horrifying monstrosity that basically feeds on evil itself
-most recently, an ex-conqueror that lost his sense of self-worth after a permanent injury, and is angrily distancing himself from his surprisingly supportive partner who he may or may not have also been romantically involved with

So, you actually read my response SH? Thank you! And thanks for your comments. I really enjoyed writing all of that!

Your characters do have some major issues in their lives... that can be really fun to RP with and write about though. A new sort of depth can be achieved through life's hardships. As I finished Brookskimmer I realized how nice her life is, I also discovered it was sort of a relief to write her.

Oh yeah, of course! I'm reading everyone's. They're really interesting to me.

Yeah, it's always a relief to write more light-hearted characters and stories...I do have some, I swear! XD My writing usually goes in one of two directions--complex and kind of dark, where I can explore all the psychological depths of my characters, or completely silly, where the characters are still developed, but the focus isn't on serious internal stuff nearly so much as friendship and ridiculous shenanigans and magical hats and aliens that like earth detective stories. ;)

I filled this out for my boy Brigg the rat  :) GREAT idea SH, if there's I think could really help people improve their RPs it's character development!

1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?

I've no clue where I was born, t'be honest.  Me da took me off a Long Patrol hare who couldn't bring hisself to murder a babe, and raised me fer his own son.  I grew up workin' on the farm wid him, takin' care of me mam and sisters.  We grow wheat, an' it isn't ever real easy.  It's a finicky crop, wheat is.  Don't like the cold or too much rain or rocks in the soil or nothin' o' the sort.  Me da's got a good friend, Bruntil, has a farm down the way, he does.  Good wid fixin' tools, Bruntil is.  I'd call him a real genius, that mole's got quite the head on his shoulders.  Ah, but back to me home...  We've got a nice liddle farmhouse, thatch roof and built of wood planks wid me da's two paws.  Enough room fer us to be comfortable.  Ma's a wonderful cook, and I like to learn from her when I don't have to help da in the fields.  The village, Barrow, is a fine place.  Good folk there.  Some of the other lads can be a bit rough to me but I get on with most o' the grown-beasts just fine.

2. What were their parents/guardians like?

Me da's a wonderful beast.  Best I know.  Hardest workin' mouse I ever saw, an' that's a fact.  He's taught me everythin' I know, from tillin' the soil to sowin' seed to readin' the weather.  He's a fine fellow and gets on wid everybeast.  Ma has always been a bit frail, but she's a  hard worker too, always patchin' our clothes and fixing supper and carin' for the liddle ones.  I couldn't ask fer a better family, and I'd do anythin' fer them.

3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?

We get on just fine.  I don' pick fights with da, and try not to ask much of either of them.  They work hard enough as 'tis, wouldn't wanna trouble them.

4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now?

I mostly worked since I was strong enough to help.  Never had any schoolin' or anythin' like that.  I used to play ball sometimes wid the village lads, but they were rowdy boys and I never got on all that well wid them.  I like to play liddle games with me baby sisters though.  They like to play easy games of catch or run liddle races and the like.  Me da an' me and Bruntil do go to the tavern fer a beer when we can, an' that's always great.  Bruntil's always got somethin' or another fascinatin' to talk about, even when I don' always unnerstand it all.

5. What has been the most important relationship in their life?

Wid me da, fer sure.  I'd do anythin' fer him.  He saved me as a baby, and loved me even when most would've had me drowned fer bein' a different sort of beast.

6. How do they feel about love?

You must always do anythin' you can for anyone who loves you.  Tis a rare thing to find and should always he treated wid as much care as you can manage.  Love's what binds creatures together into families, blood relatives or no, an' families are the most important thing there is.

7. How do they feel about friendship?

You must love yer friends as family, and treat them wid the same care.  I've been treated poor by too many beasts to take friends for granted.

8. Have they ever been in love? With who? What happened?

Never.  Never known another rat in me life.

9. How do they feel about themself?

I dunno.  I'm nobody all so special.  I do my work and take care of everythin' I can manage.  I'm not so smart, I'll admit, and I dunno that I have much to say that anyone needs to listen to.  But I do me best to keep me family fed and warm, an' that's enough, t' me.

10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?

To make me da proud.

11. What is their worst fear?

Harm befallin' me family.  Hunger.  Losin' our farm an' livelihood.  Disappointin' me da.

12. If they had one wish, what would it be?

That me da an' mam wouldn't have to work so hard anymore.

13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?

One time I pulled the plow all on my own, when da was down wid a fever.

14. Where would their ideal place to live be?

Right here in the village.  Don' know what else is really out there that would be any better.  Here suits me jus' fine, it does.

15. How would (or do) they feel about living at Redwall?

Where's that?

16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life?

Never.  That's a horrible business.  Dunno if I have that in me.

17. How do they feel about the idea that all vermin are evil and all woodlanders are good? How about more specific species stereotypes?

Bein' that I'm a rat who got lucky and came by an unjudgmental mouse who saved me life, I wouldn't ever judge nobeast until I knew 'em.  It's personality what matters, not the sort of beast y' are.

The character I will be answering the questions with is Linhir the mute squirrel.  She wrote the answers, seeing as she can't speak.

1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?
I was born right here in Redwall Abbey, and I grew up like most other Dibbuns.  The only difference was the fact that I was attacked by a large bird at a young age, and he silenced me forever.

2. What were their parents/guardians like?
I don't remember my parents, because they left when I was very young.  I was told by some of the Sisters at the Abbey that my parents couldn't care for me.  I was raised by our current Gatekeeper, and that's how I can write so well.

3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?
Well, seeing as I don't know any of my family, I didn't get along with them very well.  I have lots of friends, though, and I consider them family.

4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now?
Well, when I was just a Dibbun, I loved pulling pranks on some of the Brothers and Sisters.  Now, I just pull pranks on my very best friend, Valmar.

5. What has been the most important relationship in their life?
Probably my relationship with Valmar, because he's helped me cope with my silence.  He's deaf, after all.  We both had similar problems, but we also had strengths that completed each other.  I can hear, he can speak.  Well, he can sort of speak.

6. How do they feel about love?
I haven't really loved anyone, I mean, not love as in I want them as a mate or anything.  I'm only eleven, after all!  But brotherly love and all that, it's good.  It's very good.

7. How do they feel about friendship?
Friendship is great!  Without friendship, a whole bunch of us would be different beasts.  Like I said earlier, friendships complete us.

8. Have they ever been in love? With who? What happened?
Well, to tell you the truth, I really like Valmar.  I'm not sure if he knows it, and I try to hide it.  I'm just not ready for that sort of thing, y'know?  Oh, but please don't tell him I said that!

9. How do they feel about themself?
I'm nothing special, even though a lot of beasts tell me I am.  I think they just mean me being mute.

10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?
My biggest dream would be to be the Scribe and Gatekeeper of Redwall.  That would be amazing!

11. What is their worst fear?
My worst fear would be to either lose my sight or my hearing.  Then my life would be unbearable.  Either that or to lose Valmar.  I think my worst fear would be to lose Valmar.

12. If they had one wish, what would it be?
My one wish would be to make my life meaningful.

13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement?  Probably the secret language me and Valmar made.

14. Where would their ideal place to live be?
Redwall, and I already live there!

15. How would (or do) they feel about living at Redwall?
I love Redwall!  I know most of the creatures there, so it's an amazing place.  Everybeast's so friendly!

16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life?
I haven't ever killed anybeast, and I think I wouldn't be able to handle it if I killed another beast.

17. How do they feel about the idea that all vermin are evil and all woodlanders are good? How about more specific species stereotypes?
Not all vermin are evil, and not all woodlanders are good, but I believe that this idea is mostly true.  I mean, most vermin are evil, and most woodlanders are good.  Not all, but most.

Thought I might just revive this topic 'cause it's an awesome one...

Okay, so this is for a fanfic character of mine who's a human.  So, not technically Redwall, but I wanted to flesh out her background a bit.  (Not giving her name, though, 'cause it's a bit of a secret.  ;))

1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?

I honestly have no clue where I was born, and I've never really lived in one place for very long.  I think the longest I lived anywhere was three years, and that was in Texas.  But I've lived all over the US, pretty much in every state except for Alaska and Hawaii.

2. What were their parents/guardians like?

As far as I know, my mom died in childbirth, and my dad abandoned me, so I guess I have to go off of my experiences with foster parents.  A lot of them were... alright, but they didn't really get me.  I did have a couple nice guardians, but one died, and the other were a young married couple that had a kid soon after I came there.  They didn't love me as much after that.

3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?

Well, I don't actually have a real family, so I got nothin' for this one.

4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now?

Me and Miss Amelia, one of the good foster parents, used to go to concerts all the time.  Some were classical, others rock, pop, folk... it didn't matter what style of music.  I was only seven or eight at the time, and I couldn't very well go to movies with Miss Amelia, so we'd listen to music.  Now, though, I don't really do much for fun.  I still listen to music a lot, and I was in my school's choir until I graduated, but other than that... nothing much.

5. What has been the most important relationship in their life?

Miss Amelia was probably the most important.  She was a wonderful woman, and she taught me how to cope with my blindness.  I remember one time when she and I went out to get ice cream and played 20 Questions for almost an hour.  I always won, no matter if I was guessing or answering the questions.  We laughed a lot.  But I lost Miss Amelia soon after that to cancer.  Never let myself get that close to anyone after that.

6. How do they feel about love?

Love is good, I guess, but I've never really been on the receiving end of it.  I've never been on the giving end either.

7. How do they feel about friendship?

People don't usually like to be around me.  I had one friend in elementary school.  His name was Jeffery.  But that was when my foster parents had a baby and I was sent away, so that friendship didn't last too long.

8. Have they ever been in love? With who? What happened?

 Never.

9. How do they feel about themself?

There are several things I wish I could change, the main one being my childhood.  If I'd had a different upbringing, maybe I'd be a better person than I am today.  Today... well, today I'm kind of messed up.

10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?

To get away from the foster care and make a life for myself.  I'd like to be a professional musician, but I'm not sure other people would like how I sound.

11. What is their worst fear?

Getting close to someone and losing them.  Well, that and spiders.  Spiders are pretty nasty.

12. If they had one wish, what would it be?

To know my parents.  My real parents.  If I'd been brought up by them, I might have a boyfriend, or at least a friend.

13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?

I got a solo in my high school choir once.  It was cool.  People clapped at the performance.

14. Where would their ideal place to live be?

Alaska, I think.  I've always wanted to go to Alaska and smell the fresh, cold air.

16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life?

I haven't, and frankly, I don't think I'd handle it well if I did.  I mean, seriously, I'm nineteen years old!  Not exactly the age to be a serial killer.

(I cut out questions 15 and 17 due to the fact that they were Redwall-related, and my character is not.)

The Skarzs

This is an interesting topic, and since Rain revived it, I'm gonna continue.

From the view of Argunath the cougar, in the Wildcat Attack RP

1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?
I was born in the cold Barkhills, far west and north of the country known as "Mossflower".

2. What were their parents/guardians like?
My parents were very good, from what I remember.

3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?
My family was not very large, I had a couple other brothers and sisters. We were as all siblings, fighting and bickering, yet always there for each other. My parents were always very loving and patient, especially with me, for I always wandered off. Now, all I hope is that they are safe and taking care of each other.

4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now?
For fun, my siblings and I would play games such as hide and seek, sometimes have pinecone-throwing wars. Now, I travel around, for staying still is not in me.

5. What has been the most important relationship in their life?
Probably the most important creatures in my life were my family.

6. How do they feel about love?
Love? Love is inevitable it seems. Sweet, aye, but short, and will leave you unsatisfied.

7. How do they feel about friendship?
Friendships are strong, but also can become dangerous.

8. Have they ever been in love? With whom? What happened?
Yes. Yes I have. I knew another cougar by the name of Elmeath. She was like family, yet closer. We traveled together for a few short seasons, but we were caught in a battle, and I could not protect her. She was run through by spear, and in my grief I destroyed them, all twenty with my bare paws. She lies now in a grave in the south, sealed below ground with a rose upon her grave.

9. How do they feel about themself?
What am I? I will not deny it and I shall be absolutely blunt: I am a monster.

10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?
I have no dream or goal, for what shall happen and where or when I shall end my days I know not, because I cannot.

11. What is their worst fear?
What I fear the most is that someone who needs me shall be hurt or killed and I shall be helpless to stop it, or that it shall be with my own paws that they find their end.

12. If they had one wish, what would it be?
If I had one wish, above all else, I would wish that Elmeath would not have perished.

13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?
Ha. My greatest achievement? Making this steel cage I wear about myself, or claiming the way of the berserk.

14. Where would their ideal place to live be?
I cannot say, for I live not in one place.

15. How would (or do) they feel about living at Redwall?
Redwall? The legendary house of red stone? Great would it be to visit, but to stay, I cannot, not only for my own urge to travel, but for the creatures' safety who live there.

16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life?
I was little older than, how to say? A Dibbun, when I first drew another creature's blood. A rat was going to kill my sister, and I stopped him forever from harming any beast. As shocked as I was that he drew breath no more, I was proud, for I had protected my family.

17. How do they feel about the idea that all vermin are evil and all woodlanders are good? How about more specific species stereotypes?
Evil and good is decided by those who have the choice thrust upon them. Not one is left from being given that choice. I had many friends that were ferrets and weasels and such like, as well as many enemies who were mice and squirrels. The choice they made formed them, and were unwilling to repent.
Cave of Skarzs

Cave potato.

Rusvul

Prince Ivar, from the Knights of Redwallalot RP

1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?
I was born in Castle Redwall. I've lived there for all my time. Dull place, really.

2. What were their parents/guardians like?
Dull, just like the castle. Dull and stiff. King and Queen. Dull, stiff, and busy. Don't much like 'em. Not sure they really care about me, further than what they can get out of me.

3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?
I really didn't, and I still don't. They don't understand that I don't want to be a prince. I detest everything they've ever wanted of me.

4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now?
I used to do nothing for fun. There was no fun. Just misery. Just dull classes. Swordplay was alright, I guess. But now, I enjoy the freedom of, well, taking things. I'm a thief, see? It's a challenge. It's a risk. It's what I live for.

5. What has been the most important relationship in their life?
Dunno. Probably my personal servant. *More to come here, I need to find a few things out for this*

6. How do they feel about love?
Love? Good thing, I guess. Not ever really cared or been cared about. What I know I don't want, is an arranged marriage. Probably be forced upon me soon. Wonder how I'll get around that...

7. How do they feel about friendship?
Same thing. Never really had any friends. I'm not supposed to associate with really anyone, except nobles. They're all dull and stuffy.

8. Have they ever been in love? With who? What happened?
No. It's not that I'm not open to the idea of it, but I don't really know anybody I feel that way for. Again, all the nobles are dull and stuffy.

9. How do they feel about themself?
I'm... me. I'm willing to defend that. My ideals and goals are here to stay, nobody can take those from me.

10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?
Freedom. To be rid of this place. I don't want to be a prince, I certainly never want to be a king. I don't want responsibility for anybeast other than myself, and maybe friends or family. But certainly nobody I know right now.

11. What is their worst fear?
Discovery. If anyone learns of who I really am, I'll never have a chance at freedom. I'll probably be flogged, and I'll lose all my independency. I don't want to be flogged, but taking my independency is the same as destroying my dreams, hopes, goals, and any kind of chances I might have at happiness.

12. If they had one wish, what would it be?
Freedom. Autonomy. Like in the days of old.

13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?
Secrecy. Almost nobody knows that the prince is a thief. And likewise, nobody knows that the thief is the prince.

14. Where would their ideal place to live be?
Somewhere within a day's march of a town or city, somewhere hidden. Somewhere that my presence will only be known if I want it to, and where I'm free to do whatever I want.

15. How would (or do) they feel about living at Redwall?
It's dull. I don't like it here. I want to leave.

16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life?
I haven't. I don't like the idea of killing anyone innocent, but a fighter, or killing in defense of my or my friend's life or well-being... I don't know that I'd be entirely opposed to it. I'd still not enjoy it, but I'd be willing.

17. How do they feel about the idea that all vermin are evil and all woodlanders are good? How about more specific species stereotypes?
What? Oh, that. See, the world has changed since this ancient text was written. That 'stereotype' doesn't really exist any more. The races that used to be considered 'vermin' tend to be lower-class, but they're not all evil. The majority are just peaceful civilians. Peaceful being key.

...Things.

1. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?

I was born in the country of Hakaan to the far east of your "Mossflower". I was born and grew up in the Ramar province of the country and much of my childhood was spent studying under the greatest blademasters who ever lived in the dojo of Atsui the Revered.

2. What were their parents/guardians like?

What were my parents like? Now that is a question I have a lot of trouble answering, my memories of my parents are hazy at best, I think I remember my mother but the image I have could just as easily have been an older sister. I also remember a bright light, they told me I was the sole survivor of the fire that consumed the entirety of my tribe's village. My guardians? I remember them with vivid detail. At first I was taken in by Atsui like all the other orphans in the area and we had a strong emotional connection, he was a Tsushima leopard cat and the foremost warrior in the entire country of Hakaan. I remember I would sit there gazing at his armour and weapons for hours upon end and imagining some day to be as great a warrior as he. Of course I could not stay with Atsui forever. At the age of seven, the young ones are assigned to one of the senseis to mentor them personally, from the day you were assigned to a sensei, that sensei would henceforth be your guardian. My new sensei was Zhuangjia'De a pangolin from the Feros province of Hakaan who had come here to escape a war. Zu, as he like to be known, was incredibly kind and caring and our connection was even deeper than the one I had had with Atsui.

3. How did they get along with their family, growing up? How about now?

I had an incredibly large family, we at the dojo considered each other brothers and sisters and like all brothers and sisters we had our fights however everyone got along well for the most part. One of my best friends and closest brothers was Ashiga Marutsu. Ashiga was an orphaned Kurai hana weasel who had been sent to be trained at the dojo by the elders of his village who wished him to become the greatest of their number. The closest sister I ever had was the one who would grow up to be the mate of Ashiga, Emlei Korodusata. Other close brothers I had were Mianju the palm civet, and Bai Huan the Siberian weasel. I regarded the corsac fox sensei Jiao as an uncle and the golden jackal sensei Mengquan as an aunt.

4. What did they do for fun, when they were young? How about now?

For the most part the word fun was synonymous with training, that is not to say that training was the only thing we did for fun however. We had races in the trees, climbed them for fun, swam at the beach whilst visiting our friends the Zeiniku sea lions. I still do much of these things for fun as well as reading and painting (which I am really quite terrible at), alone now of course, I can no longer call anybeast a friend.

5. What has been the most important relationship in their life?

Of course this must be my relationship with sensei Zu, he was like a father to me, the closest to a parental figure I have ever had, I wish our time together had not been cut so short. (*subtly hints at fanfic*)

6. How do they feel about love?

Love is needed in your life, be it the platonic love you share with friends and family or the romantic love that you share with your mate. You must however be careful of who you share your love with, it is important that you are 100% certain you can trust them and they love you back. I hope that I will someday find someone who I am certain will not betray me. (I'm dropping hints left right and centre, it's like hint Christmas up in this thread)

7. How do they feel about friendship?

Ah friendship, an evil and bitter word. Much like love you must be careful who you share your friendship with or it my return to bite you on the tail. (Hey look, more vague hints!)

8. Have they ever been in love? With who? What happened?

Alas, I have not yet found a mate to share my love with but I must not lose hope, I am still young and may find a mate yet.

9. How do they feel about themself?

How do I feel about myself? Bitter that I have survived whilst the many that I have held in confidence has died around me. I have no reason to live but cowardice prevents me from committing seppuku or maybe it is some unknown force which stays my blade, who knows what powers are at work in this world?

10. What is their biggest dream/goal in life?

Vengeance is all I have to live for and honestly I do not think I will ever be able to achieve it

11. What is their worst fear?

Honestly I have gone through so much that I fear almost nothing save for a repeat of past events. (Let's play a game, take a shot every time Jetthebinturong hints at a possible fanfiction)

12. If they had one wish, what would it be?

That I had never made friends with he who would ruin my life.

13. What do they consider their greatest achievement?

Surpassing the foremost blademaster of our country in skill has been my greatest achievement and I very much doubt that that I will ever be able to top it.

14. Where would their ideal place to live be?

Somewhere quiet and isolated, alone in the woods with nothing but my thoughts for company, in a hollowed out tree? I think that would be the best place for me.

15. How would (or do) they feel about living at Redwall?

Had you asked me a few seasons back you would find me agreeable to this suggestion. When I first visited the Abbey I found it comfortable and pleasant, now however I would not live at Redwall, it is far too crowded.

16. Have they ever killed anyone? How did they feel the first time they took a life?

I have killed many people in my time and the first time I took a life really held no significance for me save for becoming a warrior. The first time I ever felt anything because of killing it was a feeling of deep satisfaction as I had killed a major player in the game that ruined my life. (Now would be an appropriate time to take a shot I think)

17. How do they feel about the idea that all vermin are evil and all woodlanders are good? How about more specific species stereotypes?

Anyone has the capacity to be evil. I do not think that these stereotypes exist outside of your Mossflower, they certainly hold no measure in Hakaan and Abada, it is the soul that is the measure of the man, not his species.
