About the mace thing: A metal ball attached to a chain attached to a handle is a chain mace. Or mace-and-chain. A metal ball attached to a wooden handle is a mace. A spiked metal ball is a morning star. It can be used on either a mace-and-chain or a normal mace. If the metal ball has ridges instead of spikes it makes a flanged mace. A mace-and-chain can have more than one chain and head.

Actually, it's not chain and mace, it's flail.

Mace-and-chain or flail. Brian Jacques refers to it as a mace-and-chain in Triss.
