Too bad they were in a stinky gorge, he'd be able to pick out what this thing was if it weren't for the stink. Sophel decided he'd need some help if something attacked, but wasn't sure who to wake up. He continued to carve his wood, but they were less focused... He'd need to repair the raw lines later. What ever it was was cautious for sure, the clinking of the rocks had died down a bit for a moment, and he couldn't yet make out the footsteps to get an exact location.

Maya slipped into the water and shivered. She waded until she couldn't feel the bottom and started swimming clumsily to the other side. She did her best breast stroke, but she couldn't help making small splashes every couple strokes. It seemed forever, but she reached the other side. She climbed out, dripping and shivering, her ears limp. She struggled out of her wet cloak and left it near the water's edge. She shivered more as the cool air penetrated her tunic, but she would likely dry faster without the large cloak. She crept upstream toward their camp, looking intently for a bag of food. She grasped the makeshift club tightly as she neared the camp. She didn't see the sudden drop in level before it was too late. She cursed like a sailor as she tripped in the hole. She went sprawling, sling stones rolling out of her pocket, clattering on the rocks.

OOC: Just a Q. will Maya join the party at some point?

BIC: Rooksod slept like a hog, and it would take an avalanche to wake him. But Sol woke up at the disturbance in the silant night. She went out of her tent and walked over to Sophel, "did you hear something Sophel?" she asked him.

Rexinan was a very light sleeper. She pulled out her flammard and rolled over onto her stomach, looking around for the cause of the noise. There had been a crunching sound, like someone sliding on rocks. The squirrel slowly pulled herself up into a crouch, eyes narrowed. If someone was out there, she was going to be ready to defend the camp.

As Geronimo set foot on the rocks at the bottom of the gorge, an eerie cry sounded from somewhere in the gorge. He shivered slightly as he pulled out his sword.

Sophel was on his feet faster than you can say "up" and barely managed to leave Sol the parting shot, "I'd have to be deaf not to!" The squirrel was beside the hole in a matter of moments (I don't know how far away you were). He took a quick glimpse...

OOC: WONWILL< do you mind describing what Sophel see's? Thanks.

Rexinan followed Sophel cautiously, blade at ready.

In the gloom of the gorge, all that most could see of Maya was her white scut as she scrambled to get up and running. She was having trouble getting up, and was cursing her clumsiness as she finally got up. She started running toward the place she had left her coat, looking over her shoulder as she ran. Few beasts can keep up with a running hare, but she slowed a lot as she bent to put on her coat. The coat was still sopping, and difficult to get on. She had to stop for a few seconds before getting it on.

Wurf turned over in his sleep, unaware.

Sol, always the sensible one, made a torch and followed the others, lighting the way.

OOC: Lol, that would take forever. BIC:

Sophel cut off the side on a clearer path, one that connected to the path Maya was going, but farther ahead. All it took was a short climb and he was around the bend in front of her. All the squirrel needed was for Rexinan to catch up fast enough to make thie hare go towards him without thinking.

Maya jumped into the river, not caring about the splash and kicked out for the other side. Like before, it was slow going, but seemed to take all the longer when she was being chased. Her heart thumped in her mouth, hoping that one of the creatures following her wasn't an otter. Her coat weighed her down, she had gotten lucky the first time. Her moves were jerky and uncoordinated. Her head went under several times. Water lapped at her eyes and filled her nostrils. She felt the riverbed below her. Maya took a deep breath, then went under again. Her feet scrabbled at the loose rocks. Fighting her instincts, she stopped struggling and found a place where she could place her feet firmly. She kicked as a hare could, and was relieved as she gasped in the gorge air. She feebly swam the last few feet and lay, gasping like a beached fish, in the shallows. Maya, too exhausted to move, lay waiting for the others to find and kill her.

"I think the thing went it to the water" said Sol, "here take the torch, I will take a look" she said handing  Sophel the torch and diving in to the water.

Rexinan glanced at Sophel. She had seen his strategy, but she had been too late. The squirrel stopped running and stood perfectly still, listening and watching in the darkness. She had heard a splash in the river and turned towards it. Soft swishes floated in the air as she slashed her flammard through it impatiently. She would have liked to go after the intruder herself, but to be honest she wasn't a very good swimmer. Best leave that to the otters.

OOC: Leatho, I'm already on teh other side, I took a different trail and was going to cut her off later, but she's still at the pool. BIC:

The thing, which now appeared to be a very haggard hare, was flopped in the shallows, obviously worn out, and not seeming to be a threat. The squirrel started down the trail at a slight trot, bent low in case he should slip. He was going to call out to Sol, but the otter was already in teh water. He was getting close to the Hare, and weary wouldn't begin to do this creature justice. Sophel took pity on the beast, he called over to Rexinan, "False alarm! It's just a hare! Can you go back to camp and wake the cook? Poor thing could use some feeding."

OOC: Oops sorry, my bad.

BIC:

Sol swam over to the hare, She felt really sorry for the poor thing. "Sophel, could you help me bring the hare back to camp?".
