I'm writing a story called 'The Autumnleaf House'. It's basically one of those 'main-character-saves-endangered-species-from-evil-developer' stories, but the species is made up.

Actually, it's set in the Redwall world, but different kinds of bending belongs to different species. I'll see how it works out.

  I have this story swimming around that I've been wanting to put down on paper (or on the computer... whatever) for awhile now, but I haven't really sat down to try yet.  Basically, in this medieval world with elves, humans, dwarves, dragons, etc., there's this half-elf, half-human 18-year-old guy named Adam.  He's just finished school (I'm gonna come up with a better name for that, but I'm too lazy to make up some term right now ) and has received a slip of paper that all graduates get: a deed for their companion.  This deed decides two things in every person's life: what animal they're gonna have as a lifelong buddy, and what their career will be for the rest of their life.  Like, if you get a pigeon, you'll be a messenger, or if you get a snake, you'll have a job that deals with magic.  Owls usually mean scholars, and birds of prey are mostly for hunters and scouts and such.  Pretty much, a kid goes through school and their behaviour is monitored, as well as how well they do in different subjects.  That info is fed to the people in charge, and they decide what career would fit the kid best.

  Anyways, Adam gets a dragon.  Dragons (and gryphons, but I'm not focusing on that right now) are given to people whose talents are more on the physical side, so they would be warriors, guards, hunters, scouts, etc.  Adam picks a Speed class dragon (there's five classes of dragons: Stealth, Aerial, Speed, Fight, and Water), and is almost immediately put in a sort of initiation to make sure that he has the right stuff to be a dragon rider.  This means two months of surviving in the wilderness with no one to help you but your dragon.

  Yeah, that's where I get stuck every time.  My mind jumps ahead to what he'll do at the Dragon Academy (I seriously need a better name than that) and completely skips over the initiation.  So... yeah.  Still gotta do some brainstorming for that.  I have one idea for something that might occupy a couple days/weeks of the two months, but other than that, nada.

I was trying to write a fluff Redwall romance for New Years, but apparently I cannot write fluff. My female protagonist is grief-stricken and my male protagonist is a player. Sigh. I'm not a fluff writer.

That's probably a good thing, actually.
