I agree, it would be easier to not have to have the characters struggle with snow, but spring is a good time for storms, and that could be thrown in as a plot element.

so, we should maybe think of  a description of the ship?   I was thinking it could be a three-masted galley, with the below decks divided between cargo area and holding cells for slaves on the lowest, crew quarters in the middle decks and the captain, bosun, and first mates towards the back (stern in sea-farin' terms).

In general, I see the ship as once being a proud and beautiful jewel of some kings fleet, but now is aging and tired, and having an air of evil and dread about it.  The kind that you see and want to flee from.

--- ok, so we know where the ship is, when - spring, so let's place the characters I say we can start with the ships officers in the captains cabin looking at a map and arguing over where to land before an oncoming storm hits. 

These are just ideas, but I thought I would throw something out to us started going.
