BUT MARTIN WAS THERE AND ALL THE WARRIORS FROM WHEN THE GREAT BATTLE AGAINST THE WILDCAT HAPPENED OF COURSE THEIR WERE ABLE BODIED REDWALLERS TO FIGHT

Maybe they were still getting over the fight with the wildcat, and they were too occupied building the abbey.

But what about the shrews? Not all of them would be elderly. They could of hepled with destroying Doomwyte (with the help of some Redwallers, of corse).
