Than Maybe they stoll a ship like how cluny stole  a cart, or perhaps even made their own. If the animals in redwall are anthropomorphic than the monkies must be einstein smart compared to the rest.

i'm sorry but monkeys would be to hard to defeat also and like icefire  said they depend on humans and plus that would add more to the vermin horde which we realy dont need cause there alread is 10 thousand
