Shadowed One

Roald walked warily down a staircase to a room with a hole in the ground. "Svein! There's a scorpion's remains in here, along with some rat skeleton. There is a marker here as well. It says that in this room Gabool the Wild, King of Searats, was killed."

Gabool the wild? Surely not Gabool, great grandsire of the searat king who drove us out of our homes!

Shadowed One

"Aye, that's what it says. Wait, did you hear something?" Roald looked back up the staircase.

Elda had decided to tag along with the crew going ashore, seeing as she wasn't in the mood to cook.  She wanted to explore.  Maybe that would get her mind off of all the deaths she had just seen.
The snowy white otter looked up at the giant fort in front of her, her mouth open slightly in amazement.  She'd never seen a building as large as this one before!  She cleared her throat as they stepped inside, slightly afraid and slightly excited.  The smell was awful, seeing as there were dead creatures lying about, but it was a grand castle.
Suddenly, she tripped over a bucket that had been laying on the staircase.  It fell down, clattering and making a loud noise.  "Sorry," she said, looking embarrassed.  "Tha' was mae.  Noo naed tae worry."

Vel sat on a wooden beam, far above the creatures now entering her home.  How dare they trespass?  Did she not leave a good enough sign to stay out by leaving the rats near the entry?  She glared at the beasts below her, trying to count them.  Unfortunately, her parents had never taught her to count, so she only knew a few numbers.  She certainly couldn't read, so what they were saying was new to her.  Who was this Gabool beast?

Roald saw Vel sitting on the beam overhead. He saw her eyes gleaming, and drew his longbow. Notching an arrow, he shot at the shadowy form on the beam.

Tyv, who had followed the others up to the old fort, saw Roald fire his arrow, and asked curiously, "What are you shooting at? Is there a rat up there?" Her paw tightened slightly on her axe handle.

Olaf, who had accompanied the scouting party, climbed up to the shadowy form. Being a born climber, he didn't make a sound, and, barely ten pawsteps away he took an arrow out his quiver and prodded what seemed to be another squirrel with his arrow.

OOC:  Just saying, I'm not sure how Roald coulda seen Vel.  She was sitting out of the way, like waaayyyyyy above them, and she was sitting in the shadows.  And also, Vel woulda seen Olaf climbing up, because she was watching them the entire time.

BIC:  Vel had been sitting still, faking like she was oblivious to the fact that there were beasts watching her.  When she felt the arrow tip on her back, she hissed, spinning around and lashing out at the creature before bounding away with ease, leaping from beam to beam with barely any sound coming forth.  What great fun this was!  She hadn't been chased in ages!
Vel then immediately scolded herself for finding joy in this.  They were trespassing on her property.  They should get out of here before she had to kill them!  She knew all about the castle, having lived there for about four seasons, and exploring it for two seasons before that.  She was quite a clever squirrel and had found many hiding spots, as well as several secret passages.  She didn't want to use them quite yet, though, seeing as all eyes were on her.  Patience.  That was a thief's greatest advantage.  Patience.

OOC: Olaf was coming up behind the party of scouts. When Roald saw Vel Olaf went into stealth mode.

BIC: Taking initiative, Olaf drew an arrow and fired at the squirrel. He, or she, was very fast.

OOC:  I'm not trying to get into an argument here, I'm just simply stating that Vel was very high up and watching any and every movement down below.  There would literally be no way she could miss a creature climbing up onto her beam.  It's not that I'm trying to be a Mary Sue or anything, it's just that there would be no way she could miss the movement of another beast.

BIC:  Vel saw the arrow coming at her, and she tried her best to dodge it, but unfortunately, she could not get out of the way soon enough.  The arrow hit her in her left shoulder, luckily not going deep, but it was enough to make her stop for a second and cry out.
"Ah!" she exclaimed, gripping the beam tightly with her uninjured limbs and trying to stay balanced.  She glared at the squirrel who had shot her.  How rude!  "Wot were tha' for, ya big meany?  Yer trespassin' on my territory!  Get out or I'm gonna 'urt yer!  Out!  Now!"

Elda stared up at the black creature, noting how the voice sounded young and feminine.  Summoning up her very much unused voice, she called out, "Olaf!  Dinnae shoot the lass!  She's just a wee child!"

Vel glared at the odd, snowy otter.  Well, more like a blob of white from where she stood, but she could tell it was an otter.  She'd seen an otter before.  They sounded different from other beasts.  "Yew ain't 'elpin' none, oh white blob!"  She winced as she shouted these words, wishing she could clutch her wound but knowing she'd fall off if she removed her claws from the beam she was crouched on.

Tyv gripped her axe handle nervously. Now that Elda mentioned it, that creature did sound quite young. "Don't shoot, don't shoot, don't shoot. She wasn't doing any harm," Tyv murmured quietly.

Roald had an arrow on his bowstring. "Your call, Svein. Should I finish her?"

OOC: Roald smelled her and then looked up and saw her.

"I could never give the order to kill a child. Olaf, Roald, stand down!" Olaf started climbing down, ashamed from firing at an innocent child.

OOC: Ya know, Vel kinda reminds me of golloum.

Rainshadow

  OOC:  (@Shadow)  ...Harumph...  (@Thom)  Haha, I hadn't thought of that.  :P

BIC:  Vel glared at the squirrel, guessing that he was the one named Olaf.  Of course, he wouldn't see the glare, as her hood was pulled down low enough that her whole face was shadowy.  She winced as she tried to move away, wishing she could just bound off to one of her many hiding spots.  Why did the stupid squirrel have to shoot her?  What did she do wrong?  She was just watching them, after all!
Hissing again at the creatures below, she shouted, "Get out!  Get out o' my castle!  Out!  Now!"  She gestured with her left paw, gritting her teeth to try and stop herself from screaming.  Stupid arrow.
