What's the difference between malware and a junk file?

Dannflower Reguba

A junk file is one that is not helpful or just hindering, generally comes with other rather common downloads.

Malware on the other hand literally means "Malicious Software." It is purely bent on destroying your computer in specifically coded ways.

Why don't we make a section/child board for mods to put locked topics that are linked to others? Example: the topic in 'Dueling Roulette: Round 2' has a link to another locked topic. This could be placed in the afore mentioned board. So instead of having a crowd of locked topics or sticky topics related to others, they could be neatly compacted into this board.

Note: Maybe the FMC could use as a private base?   ;D

I'm not sure that's necessary. In the case of the dueling roulette threads, I want all threads related to the dueling roulette to stay in the dueling section of the site. They are locked but there are things on them that are important to participants to read.

When that particular event (rp dueling round 2) is over all threads pertaining to it (that have been locked or for any other reason will not be used again) will be moved to a locked childboard in the RP section, so we do have a place for those sorts of locked threads, they just aren't moved until they are no longer needed. :)

I was wondering about something. On the forum's board index, on the bottom right, it says there are 2044 members. Yet, when I go to the searchable list of members, it says there are only 1400-something. Why?

Some accounts have been deleted.
Why? BrookSkimmer said in another post that it was not a good idea to delete a SPAM account, and what other accounts would you want to delete?

Osu

Sometimes we do delete spam accounts, and sometimes users delete their own accounts. An example of when it would be safe to delete a spam account would be if Matthias banned registering with an email account from, say, abc123.com. Then every spam account that registered with that account (spamuser1@abc123.com, spamuser2@abc123.com, etc.) can be deleted without worrying about them making another account under the same email address.  Make sense? :)

Ah! I get what you guys were saying about the locked board thing now. Yes, that's what the "completed" sections are for. Things that are locked and out on the still in use sections are there for people to read and to get info from but not to post it. Just because a post is locked does not mean it's not still being used, it just means for whatever reason the mod who locked it doesn't want people posting in it. Usually I lock things to keep posting clutter down.  ;)

@Osu: Then why not just ban all the Spam e-mail accounts and delete the Spam profiles?

Life is too short to rush through it.

Osu

For that specific example: if it's obvious the email provider is guaranteed to promote spamming, then it will probably be banned. But few email providers fall into that category, so if spammers are coming from, say, hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc., it would have a negative effect on any legitimate users trying to register with those providers. Also, deleting accounts is a lot of work. XD Gagging spam accounts is faster. Does that answer your question? :)
