-Sometime later, the second mate was unexpectedly rescued by the subplot, which had been trailing a bit behind the boat (and the plot). The whole story moved along.

I have to say Redwall and Mattimeo, neither of them are my favorite but they were some of the earliest Redwall books, and I love them. :)

Although it has been a while since I read either book, from what I remember I liked Mattimeo better.

Are we comparing the t.v seasons, or the books? If it's the t.v seasons, I like both, but if it's the books, well I like some of the parts in Mattimeo but Mattimeo's character development seemed weak in my eyes, so I have to go with Redwall. Redwall is simple but it's a good start  to the Redwall series.
